Desert Hooves is so excited to host an ice cream social last night and Quiz Rally this morning. Thank you The Barn for hosting us!

One of the best parts of Pony Club is watching friendships grow across state lines, and it was especially sweet hearing how excited some of our New Mexico friends were to come back to Arizona and reunite with friends they’ve made here through Rally and camp over the years. That sense of community is such a special part of this organization.

We are so happy to have everyone here for our zoo-themed Quiz Rally and can’t wait to see all the teamwork, knowledge, sportsmanship, and wild team spirit on display! 🦒🦁🐒

Safe travels, good luck to all of our competitors, and thank you to our leaders and volunteers for their countless hours of dedication to put these events together and welcome competitors from out of state. We appreciate all that you do to make these opportunities possible!

🐪 Hump Day Q&A: Mounted Games Edition 🐎🔥

Q: Is mounted games the same as gymkhana?
A: Not quite! Gymkhana is more about individual timed speed events, while mounted games are fast-paced team relays that mix skill, strategy, and a whole lot of fun. Think organized chaos—with cheering, teamwork, and nonstop energy.

Q: Is mounted games a real discipline?
A: Yes! It’s an official discipline within the United States Pony Clubs, where riders can compete on teams and even qualify for Championships. It takes precision, communication, and serious horsemanship to compete at that level.

Q: So what does that look like at Desert Hooves?
A: Around here… we lean into the FUN. 🙌
Mounted games are one of our favorite days of the year—where Western and English riders come together, mounts are shared, friendships grow, and riders of all ages build confidence without even realizing it.

Q: Do I need to be working toward certification to join?
A: Not at all. Whether you’re competitive or just curious, this is your place to jump in, try something new, and be part of the energy.

Mounted Games Day = DONE ✔️ and it was one for the books 🤠🔥

From first-timers to fearless competitors, this weekend was all about jumping in, figuring it out, and having FUN.

We saw:
✨ Riders getting a helping hand and finding their confidence
✨ Ponies led through courses in-hand like total pros
✨ LOTS of shared mounts (because access > excuses 🙌)
✨ Big cheers, big effort, and even bigger smiles

At Desert Hooves, we’re not about perfection—we’re about participation. You don’t need the “perfect” horse, the “perfect” skill set, or the “perfect” timing… you just need to be willing to show up and try.

Because the magic? It happens in the middle of the mess, the laughter, the missed hand-offs, and the “let’s try that again” moments 💥

If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, consider this your sign.

Huge congratulations to Rose on the newest addition to the Pony Club herd—Poppy! 🌟

Also known as Poppy Cakes (or Pop Tart! 😉), this lovely 5-year-old registered Drum Horse (Clydesdale/Gypsy Vanner cross) is already winning hearts with her incredibly sweet disposition and beautiful movement. She’s the kind of partner everyone hopes for—kind, eye-catching, and full of personality.

We’re so excited to watch Rose and Poppy grow together as a team and can’t wait to host a Meet Our Mount all about Poppy’s adorable, quirky qualities. We have a feeling she’s going to be a fast favorite around here 💛🐴
