๐บ๐พ Yip Yip Hooray! Project Coyote is thrilled to launch the first annual ! ๐พ๐บ
This new holiday starts on March 17th and leads up to on March 23rd, and intends to raise awareness about the intense persecution and misunderstanding coyotes face and the importance of compassionate coexistence.
Coyotes face significant threats and unjust vilification, leading to approximately 500,000 killed annuallyโequating to one per minute. However, they play a crucial role in both rural and urban ecosystems and deserve protection from unjust and unscientific persecution. Coyote Awareness Week offers an opportunity to enhance understanding and appreciation for this often misunderstood species.
It is well past time to replace lethal โmanagementโ with coexistence. Coyotes, like everyone, belong and have a right to exist. Coyotes are sentient, family oriented beings who deserve protection from unscientific and unethical persecution.
We invite you to join us this week as we highlight coyotes! Here are some ideas on how to join in:
๐บ Host educational events on coyote coexistence.
๐ณ Participate in nature walks that offer insights into coyote ecology and behavior.
๐จ Organize film screenings for media such as the 2023 documentary "American Bolshevik," along with art exhibitions and photography showcases, to spotlight the beauty and significance of coyotes.
๐ค Participate in community outreach efforts, including distributing educational materials, to help raise awareness locally.
๐ Read Coyote America, New York Times best-seller, written by Project Coyote Ambassador Dan Flores, and Coyotes in Our Midst, co-authored by Project Coyote Founder & Executive Director Camilla Fox and available to download free of charge.
