On this Feel Good Friday, we would like to give a special shoutout to our awesome team of Youth Advocates!

Though our team is small, they are mighty. Whether it is visiting schools on outreach, driving youth to appointments, helping youth receive hygiene and pantry items, or putting together birthday gifts for youth, they do it all. And they make it look easy ( even though we know it isn’t). We are so thankful to have Youth Advocates who truly have a heart for the youth they serve. No matter what, they will always show up when one of our young people is in need of something.

So, to Shelbey, Hallie, Robert, and Elena: we love you, and we appreciate everything you do for our youth. Your hard work does not go unnoticed!

Many people know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it is also Su***de Awareness Month.

Youth experiencing homelessness are more susceptible to experiencing mental ill-health, including the risk of su***de.

By being informed about these issues, we can make a difference in our community and support one another.

We have some awesome news today!

Veail, who has been coming to The Cove for a long time, has gotten his first apartment. With the help of Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network's Rapid Rehousing Program, he was able to get stable housing and live on his own. It is also fully furnished thanks to Methodist Children's Home.

Huge thank you to both of these amazing organizations for making this possible for Veail, as well as Mike, one of our lovely volunteers. We are so proud of the work Veail has done to get to where he is now. we know good things are coming his way!

Happy Tuesday, Cove Family! We have another success story to brighten up your day.

Amber was referred to us last year by Waco ISD when they saw that she was falling behind in her classes and wasn’t attending school. She began coming to The Cove, and we were able to find out that she had been living with her 2 brothers and grandfather after her dad had moved away. However, she wasn’t consistent in coming to our after-school programming and began hanging out with the wrong crowd.

But we wouldn't give up on her. At the start of this year, she began coming back and accepting help. We were able to get her signed up for driver’s ed, and she worked towards that during the summer. Then, last month, she was able to get her permit. Now, she is attending school more regularly and is on track to get her license in March!

This small part of Amber’s story is proof that progress doesn’t always look like we expect. Sometimes it takes longer than we would like, but in the end, progress is progress. Way to go, Amber!

Here’s a look into this week at The Cove!

Monday: Our staff will be taking Columbus Day off to reset and get ready for another awesome week.

Tuesday-Wednesday: We will not be having after-school programming since our youth will be on their fall break. We will still be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. so youth may still have access to our resources.

Lastly, our hygiene pantry has been put to good use this year, which means we need your help restocking some items. Our Built to Last fundraiser was amazing!

And we exceeded our $175k target by raising over $188k.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making our fundraiser our biggest and most successful ever.

It’s finally here!

Our annual fundraiser and 10-year-anniversary is tomorrow. We will have live music, a silent and live auction, an open bar, a delicious dinner, and great company to go with it.

We can't wait to see everyone there!

Today’s success story goes to show how a strong support system can be essential for a young person’s success.

Aiden has been coming to The Cove since last semester. Recently, he found himself in a situation where he needed housing but was struggling to advocate for himself, so we stepped in to help his voice be heard.

Our team and a local partner agency collaborated to advocate for this young man and successfully helped him secure supported housing.

With youth experiencing homelessness or unstable housing, there is often a lack of a stable support system. This is why we make it a priority to always advocate for the needs of our youth. We will always make sure their needs and safety come first, and we’re happy to know that Aiden now has a safe place to stay with a strong support structure.

Come with us as we go to pick up one of our vans from the repair shop!

Our vehicles are essential members of the team, helping us get to our young people and provide transportation. We’re so glad that the problem with our van was a minor fix and we could quickly continue serving our young people.

We have another recent success story to tell!

We began working with Katie a few years ago when she and her siblings were experiencing housing instability. Because she was trying to help out her siblings, she fell behind in her schoolwork and eventually dropped out to work full-time.

Recently, however, we were able to get her back enrolled in online school, and she is on track to graduate in May! We were also able to pay for her driving school and assist her in getting her license, and she was able to purchase her first car.

We are so proud and inspired by all of Katie’s hard work. Getting through high school is a challenge in itself, but working full-time to provide for your siblings on top of that takes a lot of perseverance. We are so glad we get to help Katie finish high school and assist her in whatever ways she needs.
