How can curators and archivists ethically collect, preserve, and provide access to oral histories created by women and LGBTQ communities?

Join the OHA Oral History and the Law & Ethics Task Force for a conversation with Laura Micham and Craig Breaden of Duke University’s David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Through examples from three collections, they’ll explore risk, archival empathy, and the ethical responsibilities involved in caring for and providing access to these oral histories.

Working with Memory to Build Community, to Heal, and to Transform | $50

How can memory help us build community, support healing, and shape the future?

Join Ann Chinn, Danita Mason-Hogans, and Wesley Hogan for a two-hour, hands-on workshop designed for memory workers and oral historians. Through three embodied activities, Clothesline, Wearable Eulogy, and Toolkit, participants will explore memory not simply as remembrance, but as a tool for connecting generations, honoring legacy, healing communities, and transforming the present.

Bring a photograph or postcard that evokes an elder or ancestor, and come ready to show, not tell! Participants are also invited to share the memory-work practices that animate their own work.

The program will feature 30 minutes of curated topical discussion, followed by up to 30 minutes of moderated Q&A from the audience.

This guided walking tour explores 20th-century q***r life between Old Town and SW 13th Avenue, highlighting historic sites including South Waterfront Park, Darcelle XV Showplace, the Never Look Away Mural, and the Crystal Hotel.
