🎉 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🏛️

Have you ever wondered what inspired the Historic Waco logo? 👀

It turns out, the logo is more than just orange and blue—it’s a little piece of Waco history! ❤️💙

🧱 The Orange: Inspired by the beautiful orange bricks found on all three of Historic Waco’s historic house museums.

💙 The Blue: Matches the shade of blue painted on Hoffmann House, Historic Waco’s headquarters.

🏛️ The “H” Arch: Look closely at the H! The arch is inspired by the arches above the doors of the historic homes.

🌾 The “W” Negative Space: The open space in the center of the W represents the shape of a Waco Indian grass house.

Together, these details represent two important types of homes connected to Waco’s history—those of Wacoans before and after the city was established in 1849.

Who knew a logo could tell such a big story? 🤩

💬 Did you know there was this much history hidden in the Historic Waco logo?

🦣 TALES OF TEXAS THURSDAY! 🦣

Waco is home to all kinds of critters and wildlife—but did you know it was once home to GIANT mammoths too?! 👀

Of course, you won’t find them roaming around Waco today… but you can visit the place where these incredible creatures once walked! 🦣🌿

In 1978, two men searching for arrowheads and other interesting finds along the Bosque River discovered something unexpected—large bones sticking out of the ground! 🦴

A team from Baylor University’s Strecker Museum examined the bones and organized an excavation. What they uncovered was incredible: not one, but sixteen Columbian mammoths! 🤯

These mammoths lived in the Waco area approximately 65,000–72,000 years ago, and the site is now known as Waco Mammoth National Monument, one of the world’s significant paleontological sites.

Imagine walking along the Bosque River and discovering mammoth bones beneath your feet! 🦣

💬 If mammoths were still roaming Waco today, do you think you’d want to see one up close—or would you keep your distance? 😂👇

🎓 WHAT IS IT WEDNESDAY? 🏛️

Can you guess who once shared this room—and went on to leave a lasting mark on Waco? 🤔

One of the four men who shared this room was Abner McCall, a senior law student who would later become president of Baylor University from 1961–1981. 🎓🐻

During World War II, McCall also served in the FBI. Today, his familiar green coat and cap are on display alongside his photograph, giving visitors a personal glimpse into the life of a man who played an important role in Waco’s history.

🏛️ You can see these items at the Earle-Napier-Kinnard Historic House Museum!

🏛️ MISSION MONDAY! 🏛️

Did you know that Historic Waco is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to being the storytellers of Waco’s history? ❤️

Our mission began in 1967, when three groups—the Heritage Society, the Society for Historic Preservation, and the Duncan Foundation—merged and incorporated to create what would become Historic Waco.

Today, our three historic houses provide opportunities to:

🏡 Preserve Waco’s heritage and history
📚 Educate the public
❤️ Inspire our community
🎓 Create meaningful experiences for visitors of all ages

Throughout the year, Historic Waco offers house tours, school field trips, our Traveling Trunk program, special events, and rotating exhibitions—all designed to bring Waco’s history to life!

We’re proud to preserve the stories of our past so they can continue to be shared with future generations.

👻 TALES OF TEXAS THURSDAY! 👻

Everyone knows Dr Pepper was invented right here in Waco… but did you know there are also stories of something a little more mysterious lingering at the historic Dr Pepper museum? 🥤👻

According to reports from museum staff over the years, the building has been the setting for some unexplained experiences, including shadowy figures, apparitions, and even disembodied voices. 👀

The building itself is now more than a century old, leaving plenty of room for stories about who—or what—might still be hanging around.

In 2009, museum staff reportedly invited McLennan County Paranormal Investigations to investigate the claims. The investigation resulted in reports of unexplained phenomena, including floating orbs and voices from unknown sources.

And naturally, Waco has its own theory… 👀

Could one of the spirits be connected to the early days of Dr Pepper? Perhaps even Charles Alderton, the pharmacist credited with creating the famous drink? 🥤

We can't say for sure—but if there is a Dr Pepper ghost wandering the halls, maybe it's just making sure that secret recipe stays secret! 😂👻
