CASA of McLennan County

CASA of McLennan County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are volunteers dedicated to helping children in foster care find safe, permanent homes.

We help ordinary people who want to make a meaningful difference by training and supporting them to advocate for kids in foster care and help keep them from falling through the cracks. Become a CASA and you will make a difference in a child’s life – and your own.

This month, we're highlighting John Moorman, our Director of Advocacy.

John's own story started with a family that took him in as a young child, even when others said it was a mistake. That family gave him the life he needed — and years later, he adopted four children from foster care to do the same for them.

Now, John leads our advocates with one message: CASA isn't about collecting a volunteer badge. It's about being a consistent force in a child's life — someone who listens, shows up, and doesn't give up.

His favorite reminder of why this work matters comes from Josh Shipp, who grew up in foster care himself: "Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success."

There isn’t just one “typical” child in foster care.

Right now, we are serving 160 children in foster care, from infants less than a year old to young adults getting ready for adulthood. Every child has a different story, different needs, and a different future worth fighting for.

That’s why every child deserves an advocate who takes the time to get to know them, listen to them, and speak up for their best interests.

One caring adult can make all the difference.
