We’re kicking off a new Lake Brazos Rotary Board Member Spotlight! On Board meeting days, we’ll introduce you to one of the people helping lead our club and share a little about their Rotary journey, favorite memories, and why they continue to serve.

First up, meet Nelson Rue!

Nelson has been a member of Lake Brazos Rotary Club Waco for an incredible 18 years and currently serves as our Treasurer.

When asked why he originally joined Rotary, Nelson’s answer was refreshingly simple: the club met downtown at 5:00 p.m., and he had a downtown business. Eighteen years later, he’s still here!

Some of his favorite Rotary memories include taking students to RYLA camp and being part of our annual fundraiser, two traditions that showcase what Rotary is all about: fellowship, service, and investing in the next generation.

Thank you, Nelson, for 18 years of Service Above Self and for continuing to help lead Lake Brazos Rotary! 💙💛

A huge thank you to Fiona Bond, Executive Director of Creative Waco, for joining us tonight and opening our eyes to just how much Waco’s creative community contributes to our local economy.

One number definitely caught our attention: Waco’s nonprofit arts and culture sector generates an incredible $74.1 MILLION in annual economic activity, supporting 1,349 local jobs and more than $50 million in household income!

But the impact goes far beyond the arts themselves. Visitors come to Waco for concerts, festivals, performances, public art and cultural events, and while they’re here, they’re eating in our restaurants, staying in our hotels, shopping locally and supporting businesses throughout our community.

Fiona gave us a fascinating look at how investing in creativity creates a ripple effect throughout Waco. Thank you, Fiona, for spending the evening with us and for everything Creative Waco continues to do to make our community a more vibrant place to live, work and visit!
