I often find that people involved in the child welfare system to include judges, attorneys, CASA, caseworkers, and even service providers forget that we come into a familyβs life when they are at their most vulnerable. We often compare them to ourselves and βwhat we would doβ. Often forgetting that we are educated, trained, and experienced. We know how to find resources. We have stability. We have a support system.
The families we encounter have none of these things and it is our duty to help, because this is the path we have chosen.
I would encourage anyone involved in child welfare to take a step back and look at a familyβs situation from a different perspective before making decisions on what you would do if you were were in their shoes. The hole they are trying to crawl out of is harder than it seems.
