After 60 years refurbishing furniture and working at the Mexia State Supported Living Center, Elvern is retired and enjoys walking in his pasture and working on furniture. Spade, an 8 month old Boxer mix, recently came into his life after his granddaughter asked for his help with her puppy. Dallas apartment life wasn’t a good fit. Of course, Elvern was happy to get a companion and learn ABC would help with Spade's vet care. Sabrina, a Treasured Tails volunteer, transported Spade to the clinic for the first time in March for vaccinations and to be neutered. He visited the clinic again this past week to get his last set of booster vaccinations and his latest weight for heartworm prevention and flea/tick control. Spade is now fully vetted to ensure he remains healthy in his daily role of giving and receiving unconditional love.

This care isn't possible without generous donations to ABC's & Meals on Wheels Waco Treasured Tails program, so families like Spade and Elvern are healthy and live longer together.

Today is International Veterinary Medicine day.

We literally couldn't do the important work we do without ABC's veterinarians.

ABC's Medical Director and primary surgeon, Dr. Anderson, has been with Animal Birth Control Clinic since 2017 and truly enjoys her work.

"What keeps me going is knowing that I am also an example for what girls and young women can become with perseverance through adversity." - Dr. Anderson

We are so grateful she (and other veterinarians) choose to help animals in our community through ABC.

Here are our November numbers. We're ecstatic that we almost hit 1000 surgeries this month!

Today’s task of love for your cat or dog: see if your pet will willingly walk into its kennel for transport. If not, practice with a special treat or by placing the kennel near the food bowl and placing the food bowl just inside the kennel at first. Keeping the kennel in your pet’s everyday environment is a good plan (so when it appears, your pet isn’t wary of it).

We've got our numbers for October, and they're looking good.

Your contributions are what make ABC able to reach further into our community to offer our preventative veterinary services. What we do here is prevent more unwanted cats and dogs from being born just to end up in a shelter or abandoned. Your support matters. Consider donating at animalbirthcontrol.org/donate.

“I am so grateful and blessed to have your program, so I can help animals that come here...”

Harvey is a veteran of the armed forces and a client of Treasured Tails, a program of the Animal Birth Control Clinic. It provides access to free veterinary care for pets of homebound seniors receiving Meals on Wheels. Harvey and his wife use the Treasured Tails program to keep their own 5 dogs healthy (and other animals who occasionally find their way to their home and need care).

Three of Harvey’s pups came to visit this past Monday, including Buddy (pictured). Buddy, a friendly, smiling 2 year old pit bull, is heartworm positive. Through ABC’s Treasured Tails program, Buddy is able to receive heartworm treatment so he can feel better. Buddy also received a general wellness exam and his yearly vaccines before being transported back home by Jan, a caring Treasured Tails volunteer.

To donate or if you would like to volunteer your time and skills to this program, call or text us Animal Birth Control Clinic at 254-776-7303.
