Think SNOW! Lumberjack Memorial Trails (LMT) snowmobile club is made up of a group of dedicated men and women who volunteer their time to maintain over 100

miles of snowmobile trails in beautiful Forest County, Wisconsin. This includes not only grooming the trails with state of the art equipment during the winter snowmobiling season, but also many other duties during the off season.

At last nights LMT Membership Meeting, a portion of Trail 6, from intersection 21 to County Highway W (the trail into Lake Lucerne) was dedicated to, and in honor of, Bob Carney.

This trail section begins where Jack Kloss’ dedicated trail ends. As Jack and Bob were and are good friends, and were a vital part of the LMTs early success, it only made sense that their dedicated trails connect!

Bob was a groomer driver for the LMT for almost 25 years. During that time, Bob served as the LMT’s first Trail boss for 15 years. Bob also served on the LMT Board of Directors during much of that time.

Every time you see one of the LMT Map boxes, donation boxes, raffle ticket holders, the paddle wheel, or the raffle ticket tumbler, it is due to the generosity of Bob. Bob built every one of these items, and donated every piece of material that went into their construction; wood, hardware, glass, etc. All to improve the sport to where we know it today.

And at every fund raiser, where Jack Kloss spun that paddle wheel that Bob made, Bob and his wife Anita were right behind him, stuffing paddles, collecting money, and doing whatever else needed to be done to make these fundraisers a success.

People like Bob are special, which is why the LMT Board of Directors voted unanimously to dedicate a trail in his honor. Bob, Jack Kloss and Dave Velie Sr. were a great team for many of the early years of the LMT, and laid a tremendous foundation for success. And now they each have a section of Trail 6 dedicated in their honor, so future generations may never forget what these gentlemen gave to snowmobiling in Forest County. May we all aspire to accomplish as much.

Thank you, Bob, for all your time, generosity, and sharing your talent, all to help make LMT Snowmobile Club what it is today.

Forest County snowmobile trails will close Friday March 6th at 8am. Thank you to everyone that enjoyed our trails this year.

We would also like to thank the 100 Mile Snow Safari, Black Bear Sportsman Club, Three Lakes Trails, and Tombstone Pickerel Snowmobile Club. All the clubs put in tremendous effort to get the trails ready for this year. This year we were able to open our trails just 2 days after the snowfall at the end of December! That took a team effort to inspect, groom and open 400± miles of trail.

We hope to see everyone in the fall for our trail clean up days.

Due to the warm temperatures we have suspended our grooming operations. The trails are still open. There are good trails and bad trails out there. The short term forecast does not look good but there is snow in the long term.

It is with a heavy heart that we received the news of the passing of our local business leader and friend, Mark Ferris, the owner of the Hiles Trailhead Pub.

Mark was so much more than a local businessman. He was all about community, and well beyond the borders of Hiles. His vision and drive helped form new partnerships and brought people together for fun and camaraderie.

Please keep Mark’s family, and his “business family” in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

Rest in peace Mark. Gone, but not forgotten!

Last night we were out again touching up the trails for this weekend. The trails are in very good conditions with a couple thin corners. The small snow storms we get are really keeping the trails in greats shape. Warm weather is coming so ride while you can!
