The combined Kaleidoscope Reading Room/Hikmah House Project will transform a portable building to create a welcoming community space that serves both seniors and youth throughout the day. During daytime hours, the building will be used by adults ages 55+ for fellowship, wellness activities, technology help, workshops, and programs that reduce isolation, increase connection, and encourage healthy living. In the afternoons and evenings, the space will shift to serve youth through tutoring, literacy support, mentoring, arts, leadership activities, and a safe place after school.

The project will also bring generations together through shared programs such as storytelling, reading circles, gardening, life-skills workshops, and service projects. In addition, the building will host community events, family gatherings, and resource fairs that help strengthen neighborhood connections. By using one space for many purposes, this project will provide lasting value and create a stronger, more connected community in Wabbaseka and the surrounding communities in northeastern Jefferson County, Arkansas.

The key goal of the combined Kaleidoscope Reading Room/Hikmah House Project is to create a dependable, welcoming place where people of different ages can gather, learn, and support one another. Many small communities do not have enough safe and positive spaces for seniors or youth. This project is designed to help fill that gap by turning one portable building into a shared community hub that can be used throughout the day and evening.

Overall outcomes we hope to see include reduced loneliness among seniors, improved academic and personal growth for youth, stronger family and neighborhood relationships, and a trusted gathering place that brings people in our communities together for years to come.

*Our goal is to have this community hub open and operational by July 1, 2026. Our fundraising goal is $30,000, and as of today, we are $3,000 (10%) closer to that goal. *
