This week is National EMS week! It is a weeklong event to help recognize the role that Emergency Medical Services plays in the nation's healthcare. This year's theme was chosen to help show that EMS is part of a team of professionals that are required in order to save a life. Those folks you sometimes call "ambulance drivers" are really a highly skilled group of Emergency Medical Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics that bring the Emergency Room to you! We then perform lifesaving care as we transport you to the hospital. When out and about this week, please say thanks to our local group of Volunteer's that keep Wabasso Ambulance responding to calls 24/7/365. An ambulance does NOTHING without the people that drop everything at a moments notice to respond to someone's call for help!

Please contact us if you would like to join our team of people that are nothing short of hero's!

Today is National First Responders Day... Honoring all the people that respond at a moments notice to help you when things get tough. Our local Ambulance and Fire Department consist of volunteers. When the pager goes off, they stop whatever they are doing to respond. This isn't easy, it takes a toll on family, friends, and our jobs. We do it because we care about our community! Thank you to our volunteers!

Our sincere condolences to the Wood Lake MN Fire Department members and Family! You are in our prayers!

Little-Known Facts About EMS
In honor of EMS Week, here are a few things you might not know about the world of emergency medical services:
1. EMS isn’t just ambulances.
EMS includes EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, flight crews, community paramedics, and more—all part of a larger emergency response system.
2. We never really “clock out.”
Many EMS providers are on call 24/7 or respond off-duty when help is needed.
3. We carry more than band-aids.
Modern ambulances are mobile emergency rooms—equipped to handle everything from cardiac events to trauma, childbirth, and more.
4. Paramedics can perform advanced procedures.
Depending on their certification and protocols, paramedics can start IVs, intubate, administer dozens of medications, and even shock a heart back to rhythm—all before a patient reaches the hospital.
5. EMS providers receive thousands of hours of training.
EMTs typically undergo 165-200 hours of training; paramedics receive 1,300+ hours including classroom, clinical, and field experience.
6. We serve as patient advocates.
EMS providers often make critical decisions and act as the voice for patients during chaotic, stressful situations.
7. We train constantly.
EMS requires ongoing education to maintain certification and stay sharp on new medical advances, equipment, and safety procedures.
8. We see people on their worst day—and carry that with us.
EMS providers are trained to stay calm under pressure, but many calls stay with us long after the lights and sirens are gone.
9. You don’t have to be in a city to get advanced EMS care.
Many small and rural services are just as capable and committed, running top-tier care with fewer resources and a whole lot of heart.
10. We’re here for YOU.
No matter who you are, where you are, or what time it is—EMS is always ready.
Take a moment this week to thank your local EMS providers—and maybe share one of these facts with a friend
