Wabasha County AWARE and Collaborative Building stronger communities through connections Wabasha County AWARE is a community group comprised of providers and community members in our county.

This group strives to be a resource network for Wabasha County. We are working on building a more robust, cohesive community network that allows our community a place to go when they need assistance but aren’t sure where to go or how to start. The Collaborative funds family stability programs that offer free or low-cost services to families. Our focus is on building a continuum of coordinated fami

ly support services. Through program expansion and systems change, we strive to improve health outcomes for children and families in Wabasha County.

Although mental health and su***de prevention is important to address year-round, Su***de Prevention Awareness Month provides a dedicated time for people, organizations, and communities to join their voices and share that there is hope, help is available, and healing is possible.

I want to offer a few words of encouragement and comfort. People process grief in different ways and at different times. In the face of unexpected tragedy, that can look different for each person.

I come from a small town of just over 300 people in rural Minnesota. I have witnessed several events that deeply shook that community, including some wounds that never fully healed.
But I believe the Wabasha area is different. You are strong. You reach out. And most importantly, you are there for one another.

Even in your mourning, I have witnessed people reaching out in ways that reveal a close-knit connection that goes beyond family. There are pillars of strength among you. Embrace each other. Be there for each other. This is not the end.
My thoughts and prayers for all of you.
