The Capital Region (CR) Envirothon brings together high school students from Albany, Columbia, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties for a hands-on environmental science competition focused on wildlife, forestry, soils, aquatics, and current environmental issues. The 2026 event, held at the New York Power Authority Visitor Center in Gilboa, included 22 participating teams.

The Berne Knox Westerlo Senior team (Berne-Knox-Westerlo FFA) took first place for Albany County and has the opportunity to participate in the NYS Envirothon at the end of May.
We would like to thank the students, advisors, volunteers and the staff of the NY Power Authority for helping make this such a successful event. Without your support, this event would not be possible.

Programs like the Envirothon help inspire the next generation of environmental leaders in our communities. Please reach out to the Conservation District if you would like to support the event in the future.

🌱♻️ Happy International Compost Awareness Week! ♻️🌱

Vermicomposting — composting with worms — is a great way to recycle food scraps into nutrient-rich castings that help plants thrive naturally. These tiny worms turn kitchen waste into one of the best soil amendments for gardens, flowers, and houseplants!

Feel free to reach out to the Conservation District for a brochure on how to do this in your own kitchen.
