Heldeberg Workshop An Adventure in Learning. Online registration starts in March! Weekend classes are also available to adults.

The Heldeberg Workshop is not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing an Adventure in Learning. It is chartered by the Board of Regents and is located on over 200 acres at the foot of the Helderberg Escarpment in the Town of New Scotland. It offers 1 and 2 week outdoor courses, taught by certified teachers and expert artisans, in science and nature, high adventure, theatre and art, to name

a few. The Heldeberg Workshop is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. The Heldeberg Workshop has a permit to operate from the Albany County Department of Health. The Workshop is inspected annually; reports are available at the office on Ferry and Green Streets.

Fall Archery is calling! 🏹

Starting Sunday, September 13, join us for seven weeks of hands-on instruction in classic recurve archery — the same style of bow used in national competitions and the Olympics. Open to ages 11 to 111, this class covers shooting fundamentals, scorekeeping, and steady week-to-week improvement, with candy shoots and a final-day competition to keep things fun along the way.

Aug 31–Sept 4 | 9am–12pm | Heldeberg Workshop
A new program for adult para-archers and anyone exploring adaptive sports — no experience required. Light-draw bows and equipment provided, taught by an experienced instructor with local Rod & Gun club volunteers. Open to adults 16+ who use a wheelchair and can hold/shoot a bow independently. Caregivers and companions welcome.

🏹 New at Heldeberg Workshop: Wheelchair Archery for Adults

We're offering a free Wheelchair Archery class for adult para-archers and anyone curious about adaptive sports — August 31–September 4, 9 am–12 noon, at our outdoor Archery Field. No experience needed. We provide light-draw bows and equipment, and you'll be guided by an experienced instructor with volunteers from local Rod & Gun clubs through bow safety, technique, and different bow types.

Open to adults 16+ who use a wheelchair and can hold and shoot a bow independently. Bring a caregiver or companion if you'd like.

Step into the woods, the longhouse, and the tipi — and learn the stories of the Iroquois and Sioux.

Indians of North America (Week 3, Grades 4 & up) is a hands-on cultural journey led by instructor "Standing Woman" (Dawn Marczak). Kids will explore the woods to identify plants, animals, tracks, and feathers; gather materials to make a talking stick; and create their own clay pot, Eastern cornhusk doll, and Plains medicine wheel.

There's an entire universe hiding in plain sight at Heldeberg Workshop — you just need a microscope to see it.

Wee Beasties (Week 3, Grades 4–6) puts kids behind the lens to discover the wilderness's smallest residents. They'll search the Workshop grounds for microbial life, learn how to protect against the harmful kind, experiment with helpful microbes (including baking yeast bread!), and even explore how microscopes help scientists study DNA and solve crimes.

Instructor Dan Chaize leads the investigation.

🐇 He's naughty, he's adorable, and he's absolutely worth the trouble.

Peter Rabbit and the Forbidden Garden (Week 2, Grades 3–9) still has a few spots open! Students will hand-sew their own Peter Rabbit — complete with his iconic blue jacket — plus a garden basket filled with colorful vegetables, all inspired by the classic tale. Instructor Sharon Breisch will walk you through the basics of hand sewing from start to finish.

🐻 We're going to be honest — these projects are almost too cute to handle.

Unbearable Fun (Week 1, Grades 3 & up) is still open, and there are a few spots left! Kids will hand-sew their own black bear face pillow, paint a bear shelf-sitter, make a bear-themed garland, and more — all with instructor Sharon Breisch.
