Juneteenth and the Divine Nine are deeply connected through our shared commitment to freedom, education, leadership, and the advancement of Black communities. As we know, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their freedom, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. The Divine were founded in the decades that followed as a response to the ongoing pursuit of equality, opportunity, and empowerment for African Americans.
For generations, Divine Nine organizations have honored the legacy of Juneteenth by promoting civic engagement, educational achievement, economic empowerment, social justice, and community service. Through advocacy and action, we continue the work of those who fought for freedom, ensuring that the spirit of Juneteenth remains alive through leadership, service, and the collective uplift of Black communities.
