Love that she has my grandmother’s name who was quite the pioneer and defender of girls can do anything! Born to be an engineer and proud of it. Happy Engineers Week!

Today's A Mighty Girl Community Pick is in celebration of National Engineers Week: "Girls Who Build: Inspiring Curiosity and Confidence to Make Anything Possible." This empowering guide for girls celebrates the can-do attitude of fierce girls who know how to wield a hammer, fire up a saw, and build everything from a bookshelf to a playhouse! After being the only woman on countless construction sites, carpenter Katie Hughes decided to get more girls excited about building. She started teaching classes for pre-teen girls, showing them how to drill, saw, and weld, and eventually founded her own non-profit organization, Girls Build. Now, in this colorful, photo-filled guide, Hughes features pictures and stories from 45 of her Girls Build alumni, with each girl sharing what she loves about building, what inspires her to keep creating, and what advice she'd have for other budding girl builders. The guide is also packed with tool guides, building tips, and safety techniques, as well as a list of 13 projects to give girls an easy way to get started. This empowering book is sure to inspire young DIY-ers to pick up their tools and build something great! Highly recommended for ages 8 to 13.
