🚍 Accessibility in action!

PCB is proud to highlight Chris Hunsinger, Golden Triangle Council of the Blind Chapter President, as she tests Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s new Ready2Ride fare card vending machines.

Chris is helping evaluate the machine’s accessibility features, including the audio and keypad options that are especially important for riders who are blind or have low vision.

Accessible transportation matters. When fare machines, kiosks, apps, and transit systems are designed with accessibility in mind, more people can travel with confidence, independence, and dignity.

Thank you, Chris, for helping make sure the voices and experiences of blind and low vision transit riders are part of the conversation.

🌐💙 Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day from the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind!

Today is a reminder that accessibility is not extra. It is not optional. It is not a favor. Accessibility is a right.

For people who are blind or have low vision, digital access affects nearly every part of daily life. Websites, mobile apps, online forms, documents, videos, social media posts, job applications, healthcare portals, school platforms, and public services must be designed so everyone can use them.

Accessibility means screen reader friendly content, meaningful alt text, properly labeled buttons and links, keyboard navigation, accessible PDFs, audio description, clear headings, good color contrast, and technology that works for all users.

But Global Accessibility Awareness Day is also about action. It is a chance for businesses, schools, government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations to ask: Can everyone fully access what we create?

PCB will continue advocating for a world where accessibility is built in from the beginning.

Digital accessibility is a right, not a luxury.

🌟 Thank you for making PRC’s conference such a success!

The Philadelphia Regional Chapter’s Living Your Best Accessible Life conference was a wonderful day of fellowship, resources, connection, and empowerment for the blind and low vision community.

We are thrilled to share that the event had a fantastic turnout. It was truly standing room only, and that speaks to the strength, energy, and commitment of our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, volunteered, supported, shared resources, helped with planning, brought a merchant table, donated items, encouraged a friend to come, or simply showed up ready to connect.

This event reminded us what happens when community comes together with purpose.

One powerful day. One community. Real resources. Real connection.

Thank you for helping make Living Your Best Accessible Life a success!

🍰 Happy World Baking Day from the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind! 🍪

Baking is more than measuring flour, mixing batter, and waiting for the oven timer. It is creativity, confidence, independence, and sometimes a little bit of delicious trial and error.

For people who are blind or low vision, accessible kitchen tools can make baking safer, easier, and more enjoyable. A few helpful tools include:

👆 Tactile measuring cups and spoons
🔊 Talking kitchen scales and thermometers
⏲️ Talking or large-print timers
🔥 Oven rack guards and long oven mitts
🏷️ Braille, tactile, or large-print labels
📱 Recipe apps with screen reader access
🧁 High-contrast bowls, utensils, and measuring tools

Accessible baking is not about doing things differently in a lesser way. It is about finding the tools and techniques that help each person bake with confidence.

Now it is your turn!

💬 What is your favorite accessible kitchen tool, baking tip, or favorite thing to bake?
Share it in the comments. You may help someone else feel more confident in the kitchen!
