So What Happens Now?

On October 6, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously advanced the next phase of the San Diego County Film Initiative.

The plan calls for a Regional Film Office, an Advisory Film Commission, and a proposed $1.5 million annual production rebate program.

These programs aren’t all operational yet, as the County is currently building the infrastructure designed to attract more production and create opportunities for local filmmakers, crew, actors and businesses.

We’re excited to announce this historic victory for San Diego!

Today, the county UNANIMOUSLY voted in favor of implementing the San Diego County Film Initiative.
We’d like to thank Supervisor Paloma Aguirre for championing this measure. Years of advocacy between stakeholders, labor, and the San Diego community has made this possible.

It isn’t JUST about film, but rather creating a permanent infrastructure to secure jobs for our San Diego talent and businesses. So many have had to drive long distances or leave town in order to secure work, but thanks to amazing leadership and years of advocacy, we’re prioritizing the talent already HERE in San Diego!

There’s certainly a lot of work ahead of us. This is just the start…but a great start!

On June 25, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve $500,000 to establish a regional Film Office.

Since then, the County has hired CVL Economics to develop an implementation plan/recommendations for a regional Film Office, Film Commission, and performance-based Film Rebate Program.

ACTION NEEDED

They are now seeking input from film and media stakeholders to help shape these recommendations. Your feedback is essential to ensuring that the final plan reflects the needs of our local industry.

The survey, put together by CVL Economics and San Diego County, takes about 10 minutes(available in English and Spanish) may be completed unanimous and must be submitted no later than Friday, August 7.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted UNANIMOUSLY in favor of advancing the SDC Film Initiative ! The County, working alongside our Film Industry, is now tasked with developing the initiative further.

This is just a step along the path, but a CRUCIAL step, and certainly in the right direction!

We’d like to express our gratitude to Supervisor Paloma Aguirre for championing the cause and the San Diego Board of Supervisors for supporting it!

Most importantly, we’d like to thank all of the San Diego Film Professionals who came together to help the initiative reach this milestone!
