Did you know one of Comic-Con's longest-running traditions began because of a simple act of gratitude?

Science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein once relied on lifesaving blood transfusions during a serious illness. He later agreed to attend Comic-Con on one condition: that a blood drive be held.

Decades later, that tradition continues.

Right now, blood donations and donor appointments are lower than needed to meet anticipated summer demand. Hospitals continue to rely on blood every day for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatments, and more.

We're especially in need of Type O and platelet donors, but all blood types are needed.

June 19 is World Sickle Cell Awareness Day ❤️

Meet Brianna.

Diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at birth, Brianna received multiple blood transfusions as part of her treatment. As a teenager, she needed to resume monthly transfusions—care that continues to help her manage her condition and live a healthy, active life.

Today Brianna is thriving and continues to thank blood donors for keeping her alive.

For patients living with sickle cell disease, blood transfusions can be lifesaving, helping reduce complications, manage pain, and improve quality of life. Every blood donation has the power to make a lasting difference for someone like Brianna.
