18 years on a board is a long time to keep showing up.

That's how long Mark Larsen served on SRT's Board before this year's Alan George Conservation Award recognized what that kind of commitment adds up to. As General Manager of the Greater Kaweah GSA, Mark has spent his career on the question of how the Central Valley protects its water and its land not as an abstraction, but as the daily work of showing up to meetings, making hard calls, and staying in it for the long game.

That's what movement actually looks like. Not one big gesture. Years of them, strung together.

Your hands in the soil. Rows of tiny native plants that will one day restore real habitat across the Central Valley. 🌱

Dry Creek Nursery is looking for its next Nursery Technician through AmeriCorps and the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership. For 11 months, you’ll learn how native plants go from seed to restoration site: collecting seed, propagating cuttings, transplanting, and leading the volunteers who show up to help.

🌿 The story of this land began long before conservation organizations, preserves, or protected areas.

On Indigenous Peoples Day, Sequoia Riverlands Trust honors the Indigenous peoples whose connection to the lands and waters of California’s heartland spans generations.

SRT works within the traditional homelands of many peoples and tribes, including the Western Mono, Chumash, Tubatulabal, Paiute, Salinan, and Yokuts peoples. These lands hold stories, cultural traditions, and relationships with the natural world that continue today.

Recognizing this history is part of understanding the places SRT works to conserve and the importance of caring for them for generations to come.

Take time to learn about the Indigenous peoples and living cultures connected to the lands where you live.

There's a moment when caring about a place stops being enough.

Maybe it's a walk through 200-year-old valley oaks that almost weren't here for you to see. Maybe it's reading about how fast open space is disappearing from California's heartland. However it shows up, it shows up as a question: if not now, when?

That's what Move is about. Not a campaign about a feeling. A campaign about what a feeling becomes when you act on it. Conservation has never been passive. The land we protect survives because people heard that call and moved.

🏡🐾 A place to call home matters to every species.

World Habitat Day highlights the importance of having a safe, suitable place to live. For people, that means adequate housing and healthy communities. For wildlife, it means something different, but just as essential.

Birds need places to nest. Pollinators need native plants. Mammals need food, water, and shelter. Wildlife needs connected, healthy habitats where populations can survive and thrive.

Across California’s heartland, protecting oak woodlands, wetlands, rivers, grasslands, and other natural areas helps keep those places available for the species that depend on them.

This World Habitat Day, look a little closer at the wild neighbors sharing the places we call home. 🌿

Last night, a room full of people showed up for this land. And now, SRT is asking the rest of the Central Valley to do the same.

Something is calling. That's the idea behind Move, Sequoia Riverlands Trust's year-end campaign. It's built on a simple truth: the oak woodlands, river corridors, and working farms that make this valley what it is don't survive on sentiment. They survive because people show up, give what they can, and keep coming back.

The goal this year is $250,000. Every gift, every new monthly contributor, every hour volunteered moves the needle closer.
