Visalia Succulent Club

Visalia Succulent Club Succulent lovers of Visalia and surrounding cities get together to share, learn, and teach about cacti and succulent plants.

The Visalia Succulent Club is a non-profit group created by the locals of Visalia in 2015. Members meet to share, learn, and teach about succulent plants. Our meetings are always eventful; involving anything from guest speakers, workshops, succulent exchanges, sales, field trips, and more. Since we're just starting out, the club is small and informal. Perhaps someday we'll have enough members to make ourselves part of the official society!

Hello there! We know this page has been quiet and hope you understand - it is hard to believe it’s been a full year since our last meeting! I know I and the rest of our Board sure miss getting together with you. Last year I thought about doing virtual meetings via Zoom like some other plant clubs have done, but it just didn’t seem like it was doable or that it would feel as good as our in person meetings. Social clubs have have certainly been challenged in the last year - gathering with our members and friends to share our passion for succulents and related plants is so much fun and not having that in person connection (or, since I’m being completely honest, the ability to share so many good snacks) shelved the idea of virtual events for us. Now that vaccines are being administered, and at a quicker pace, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We are not yet sure when we can meet in person, but will let you know as soon as we do. If you paid your membership dues for 2020, they have rolled over to 2021 and you are still a member. We are not accepting signups at this point but once we have a better idea of future meetings, we will happily add new members! Until we meet again, stay well, stay safe and keep watching our page for future news and updates. We can’t wait to see you all again. Thanks to Laura Manser for letting me share a beautiful picture she took of Aloe spinosissima blooming in her garden.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We hope you are staying safe and we look forward to more meetings in the New Year at some point. Here is a picture from Member Cindy that speaks to the fall season with a cheerful succulent pumpkin flag. Don’t forget to protect your tender plants from the cold temperatures at night - it’s starting to get a lot cooler. Thanks Cindy for sharing your great cactus picture with us!

Happy Earth Day 2020 from us to you! We hope you are able to get outside and into your garden or outdoor space to enjoy the plants, animals and beautiful weather that surrounds us today. The Earth is our home and we must all do our part to take care of it and protect its vital resources. Earth Day began 50 years ago today, and we are so glad this tradition continues to highlight the importance of strong environmental stewardship. ❤️🌎

This plant is Mammillaria hahniana AKA Old Lady Cactus, which opened her first flowers in honor of this special day. Is Mother Nature (the oldest lady) sending a message? We think so!
