When Jeneiro first moved to The Neighborhood Village, he wanted to leave.
It was different. Uncomfortable. He and Shawna were still figuring out how to live this way. But people kept showing up for him — kept telling him he belonged — and eventually, he started to believe them.
Now he can't imagine not being there.
Jeneiro grew up without a real home. His mom passed when he was 9, and after that, home became wherever he could find it. He and Shawna were living at the Tulare encampment before The Village. He didn't think they'd ever get out.
Today, he's been on the Salt + Light workforce team since June 2025. He and Shawna were married at The Village last year. He goes back to the encampment — the one he used to live in — to bring food and show people there's a different way.
"I feel wanted. I feel welcomed. I feel like I belong. That's an awesome feeling. I can't describe it — it gives me chills. It's something I never had before."
98% of our neighbors are still home. Not because everything has been easy. Because people showed up for them — month after month, consistently, over time.
That's what the Circle of Hope funds: the case management, workforce programming, and daily community presence that makes staying possible.
If you want to be part of that consistency, we'd love to have you at https://saltandlightworks.org/coh 🤍
