Charles Black went home to be with the Lord last week. His funeral is Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11am at Parkside Chapel in Visalia, followed by a reception. The following is a reminder about his history of involvement in our Jails. He served 70 years!!! Amazing!
Charles Black
1942 – The father of Charles Black began going into the Oak Street Branch Jail with a few others from Parkside Chapel, every other week (a couple from Lindsay went the other weeks). Because Charles’ mother died in 1939, his dad had to bring him to the Jail when he would go, and the officer would baby-sit sometimes and other times he would not, and then Charles would play in the courthouse park.
1948 – when Charles was 14, and Charles’ dad was alone that week, the officer said to Charles, “Go in and help your dad sing.” So Charles started ministering in Jail in 1948 by helping his dad sing.
1959 – Charles took a break from Jail ministry to serve in the military for two years (1959-1960), but he resumed ministry immediately upon his return.
When the Main Jail opened in 1962, Charles began serving there, and he continued serving through the first few months of 2020.
