Like many other charities, SHP got its start from stumbling on a need that no one knew existed. It was the start of the Holiday Season, where hearts are turned towards the less fortunate and the spirit of Christmas was beginning to flourish. A small family in a small community with small children who were destined for another cold winter sleeping on the floor. It wasn’t until a local youth group became aware of this small family and decided that no kid they knew was going to have to suffer a cold night on the floor.
That group of young volunteers sprang into action and in a cold and confining garage, they built the first SHP bunk bed furnished it with mattresses, sheets and pillows and delivered it to those small children. It was this single bunk bed build and delivery that sparked an unquenchable desire to find and help more.
