Throwback to Governor Newsom joining community partners to sign legislation that brings them closer to safe drinking water. In 2019, he joined Sanger residents to sign SB 200 into law, and in 2024 he joined East Orosi residents to sign AB 805. Looking forward to seeing future actions alongside California communities.

“SB 1125, which creates this first-of-its-kind program, has passed the Senate floor!” the organization wrote. “We are one step closer to making the Human Right to Water a reality for many in California.”

California lawmakers have approved legislation that would establish a statewide water rate assistance program for low-income households, potentially giving eligible residents a new way to reduce their monthly water bills.  Senate Bill 1125, authored by Sen. Caroline Menjivar, D-San Fernando, would ...

We would like to thank Senator Hurtado for being a water champion and securing funding for SAFER. This would not have been possible without your leadership! We look forward to continuing to work together to find permanent funding solutions. 💧✊

Over the weekend, the legislature agreed to fund SAFER at $171M for the 2026-27 fiscal year. This funding comes in the form of $71M from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and $100M from Prop 4. 💧

A huge thank you to Assemblymember Soria for being a water champion and leading this important effort. This would not have been possible without your leadership! We look forward to continuing to work together. 💧✊

Esperamos seguir colaborando juntos. 💧✊

"But recipients of Tier 3 funds — which include long-standing programs for affordable housing, low-carbon transit, clean drinking water and community air pollution — are unhappy with the new structure because it reduces their allocation if there isn’t enough money after funding Tiers 1 and 2. Many of these programs rely heavily or exclusively on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund." -Los Angeles Times

Over 900,000 Californians have access to safe drinking water because of SAFER, but too many Californians are still waiting for solutions. Governor Gavin Newsom, don’t walk back on the Human Right to Water, and keep SAFER fully funded so communities like Plainview can have access to drinking water.

Today, SB 1125, which creates this first-of-its-kind program, has passed the Senate floor! Now it is in Governor Gavin Newsom’s hands. We are one step closer to making the Human Right to Water a reality for many in California. 💧✊
