Seuss-A-Thon 2017 was in full swing at the Ivanhoe Elementary School HEART Program this week!

Students of all ages came together to celebrate the work of Dr. Seuss and the love of reading in an all day festival of read-a-louds, cooking lessons, art and STEM activities, hosted by the ProYouth staff and volunteers.

Along with the great staff and volunteers who came out to support our students, ProYouth Board President, Retired Tulare County Undersheriff, Dahl Cleek came out to read some of his favorite Dr. Seuss books, and was designated the honorary "Dr. Seuss" by the students!

Thank you to everyone who made this event such a great success!

ProYouth's Insight Program works with middle school and high school students to develop the life skills necessary to confront and overcome at-risk challenges and behaviors in life.

Through group discussions, photography and writing, students demonstrate personal reflection and expression of issues they face in their daily lives.

Last week students at Palo Verde and Pleasant View had the opportunity to showcase all of the great work and achievements they have been dedicated to this year.

Last week, third grade students from the ProYouth HEART Expanded Learning Program at Goshen Elementary School had the opportunity to participate in a new program partnership with Read for Life and the Visalia Animal Care Center.

The 'Shelter Buddies' program promotes literacy development and empathy recognition in our students through partnered reading sessions with dogs at the shelter who have demonstrated anxiety and fear of potential adopters. After receiving training from the animal shelter staff, students visit the shelter twice a month to read to the dogs in 40 minute sessions. Our hope is that not only will our student's literacy skills develop further, but these wonderful animals will become comfortable with human interaction, increasing their opportunity for adoption!
