VFW UPDATE!

Outdoor enthusiasts! We thought it time to provide you with a VFW land update.

We heard you loud and clear that the VFW land is important to the citizens of Viroqua and you want to retain this outdoor space.

Vernon Trails has been working diligently to try and preserve this outdoor space for our community and visitors. In collaboration with the City of Viroqua, we have made two attempts to work with the VFW to secure this land for recreation. We originally made a fair offer to purchase the land. The VFW did not accept that offer. Then a month ago, we presented an offer to lease the land, far above market rate for any comparable land lease to date. The VFW countered with an unreasonable lease offer. We were made aware that they invited yet another realtor to their recent VFW board meeting. It has been difficult to get clear communication from the VFW, but we remain committed to this effort and hope they will decide to work with us. We want to help them solve their financial needs, while also preserving this beautiful spot for outdoor recreation.

If this is important to you, contact the VFW and tell them to work with Vernon Trails and keep this land open to the public. Selling to the highest bidder would be a terrible loss for our citizens and our visitors.

Local residents, it's your time to shine.
If saving the VFW land, Veteran Hills Disc Golf Course, and preserving our access to outdoor recreation is important to you, we need your immediate help.

Here are 2 ways to help right now:

1. Before Tuesday evening, reach out to your Viroqua elected officials and tell them to vote YES to SAVE THE VFW LAND in collaboration with Vernon Trails. 2. On Tuesday, Oct. 28th at 6:30 pm, SHOW UP to the Viroqua City Council meeting and provide a quick public comment in support of these efforts.

Vernon Trails is hosting another work day and asking for your help. Location is at the Veteran Hills Disc Golf Course this Sunday, June 8th from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. behind our local VFW Post 3032 Viroqua. We will be chipping up the rest of the tree branches from recent logging on the course. Much effort has already happened out there and we are so close to finishing the clean up with your help. Bring water, gloves, and any small powered saws. Any amount of your volunteer time will be much appreciated. Thank you again!

ATTENTION: We have received notice from the Viroqua VFW that they will be cutting down some trees on the property starting this Wednesday, January 29th. So, until further notice after that, Veteran Hills Disc Golf Course, the multi-use trails, and winter fat bike trails will be closed.
