Colony care is CONSTANT and costly… not only financially but physically and emotionally. Why do we do it you ask?! Because these lives are part of our community and they struggle just like any other being around us!
Not all of the colonies we care for have ideal conditions for care, housing and feeding so you must make do with what you have. Our rescue partner Sheryl Miller of Pottstown Paws and myself “inherited” and colony with a small area under two cars for housing and feeding. We have since provided much better feeding and shelter areas. This type of work is not just about daily feeding. It’s about maintaining their conditions, their shelters, monitoring for additional need for TNR, cleaning the property, providing a sandbox for appropriate elimination area so local businesses are accepting of their presence. Six months ago I purchased a very heavy duty, LARGE, and expensive tarp hoping it would stand up to the elements much longer than it did 😔 Yesterday we spent hours cleaning up their space… temporarily. Because I know we can not go into another winter like this! My goal is to get a small shed to place in their area. Not only will it be better for the cats but we can’t keep crawling under tarps in rain, snow, darkness and heat like we’ve been! GOALS and this one I must achieve for all involved!

Woot woot 🥳 Asher has been adopted!!! Can not thank our rescue matchmaker Enid Dunmire-Swinson for sending another fabulous adopter our way. Referral adoptions have been some of my most favorite adoptions and adopters ever! As a small rescue we rely on this kind of referral to help us find FOREVER homes! Asher begged Tara Behm to come inside. Although this wasn’t possible due to the dynamics of her kitty household she did not stop sending me cute pictures and adorable videos till I caved and brought him into rescue 😂 We hope Asher’s new torti feline sister accepts him for the sweet boy he is and I am sure she will keep him in line 🤍🩶🤍

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just don’t know where you can put or place one more cat or kitten that is need of assistance. Over crowding can lead to stress and stress can lead to disease and illness in a rescue setting. HOWEVER, that does not mean we are not going to stop trying to find ways to help! When you have a cool boss at PAWS - Pottstown Animal Wellness Services Who says I can do a couple rescue surgeries since our schedule is light you jump into action and make the call to catch the cat so at least he/she is not at risk for making more babies!! Her care giver did just that. Turns out this kitty is a girl and got full vet care. Her care giver had been trying to find placement for her through many outlets as well as asking friends and family if they could assist in finding her a home. So grateful to Katy Kaiser for jumping into action to make sure there would be a safe place for this kitty to land after her spay. Fortunately, the family found her an absolutely lovely home prior to her needing to go into rescue. Leaving that rescue space for another kitty in need! It does take a village and I am totally grateful for the amazing village that supports what we do 🫶🏼

A few updates this morning (you can always tell when I am off of work…I finally get some me time or should I say rescue posting time)!
Sydney was a successful TNR thanks to the amazing Fairchild "Feral Friends" Foundation!
Sydney happily returned to her well managed colony. Her beautiful, comical, always on the move sons are available for foster to adopt or adoption once fully vetted! These two are VERY active kittens who would do well in a home together so their shenanigans can provide you with hours of entertainment and they can keep each other out of trouble!! Adopting in pairs is undoubtedly the way to go with many kittens.

Our ridiculously sweet and special senior, Puddin wants to say thank you for the amazing delectables (Christine)
that were donated as well as the litter box deodorizer and litter that arrived from our wishlist! So very grateful for the generous and thoughtful rescue family we have 🫶🏼 I COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU!

Little update on our Puddin Pop. With the help awesome rescue partner Calla’s Critter Rescue we took on senior Puddin. Puddin arrived spayed at 10 years old and with that came a severe uterine infection called a pyometra. As a secondary result of being unspayed she had mammary nodules that we hoped would be benign. Puddin had an emergency spay and mass removal. Puddin also has severe arthritis of her spine and knees to the point that is painful to go 💩. Puddin is so happy to be loved on and we are providing the best care to give her the comfort and quality of life she deserves for the time that she has as her mammary mass came back as a very bad cancer 😭 Puddin takes her poo meds like a champ, along with daily pain meds and monthly injections for her arthritis. We would love to see Puddin land a hospice home that is able to give daily medication (all rescue provided) and the love and attention she deserves!
