✈️ Marena Can Fly Friday! 🐾

Sweet Marena has an amazing opportunity to leave Puerto Rico this Friday! One of our Cape Henry Collegiate alumni has been volunteering with our rescuers in Puerto Rico this week and has offered to bring a puppy back with her.

We would LOVE for that puppy to be Marena. ❤️

Now we just need someone here in Virginia willing to continue the good work by opening their home to her.

We want nothing more than to get Marena out of the shelter and into a safe, loving home where she can decompress, learn, play, and thrive. Her flight is possible because someone is willing to help her get here. Now she needs someone willing to be waiting on the other end.

💕 Meet Cooper! 💕

Remember Nieve? Well, his foster family has been calling him Cooper, and this handsome boy is showing us more of his personality every day!

Cooper is a 10 month old, 35 pound neutered Sato who is proving to be an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loyal boy. His foster family says he is already completely potty trained and does extremely well off leash. He gets along beautifully with cats and other dogs and has quickly become a wonderful part of the household.

Cooper is still figuring out a few things about the world. New men can make him a little unsure, and he met his first child recently and wasn’t quite sure what to think, so he barked. We suspect he’s simply had no experience with children and will need patient, positive introductions as he learns. He’s still a young dog with plenty of growing and learning to do.

He LOVES food, which makes him very motivated to learn! His foster family is working on basic commands, and he’s also discovering the joys of toys. Watching him learn how to play has been pretty adorable.

At 11 months old and 10 pounds, this adorable little island pup is a Puerto Rican “Sato” dog, or mix of many mixes. Bean is 11 months old, 10 lbs, and under veterinary care for his skin. In no time, he is going to be looking and feeling great! He is doing well with crate training and walking on a leash. He has always lived with other dogs and we have no reason to think he wouldn’t be just as fond of cats. He’s still learning about the world and is at the perfect age to bond with his forever family. Whether your idea of a perfect day is exploring the neighborhood, going on road trips, or curling up on the couch together, Bean is ready to be your loyal little sidekick.

Meet Percy, Paisley’s brother! This sweet 4 month old boy has had a rough start to life, but he’s finally learning what it feels like to be safe, loved, and part of a family. Now he needs a foster home to help him continue that journey.

At 23 pounds, Percy looks like a little chocolate Lab and has the playful, goofy personality to match. He absolutely loves playing ball in the backyard and is learning that walks on a leash can be pretty fun too.

Percy thrives when he has another dog to learn from. His sister Paisley has been a wonderful example for him, and we know having a confident canine companion will help him continue building his confidence and understanding of the world.

He’s also learning that a crate isn’t so scary. His foster family has discovered that covering the crate helps him relax and settle, and he’s making progress.

We hope to get Percy neutered this week. While he’s at the vet, we’d also like them to take a look at his skin. He had a rough beginning, and we’re hopeful that good nutrition, proper care, and time will help him continue to thrive.

Percy needs a patient foster who can give him consistency, affection, and a safe place to learn.

💕 Meet Sweet Paisley! 💕

Paisley has only been in Virginia for ONE week, and look at how far this sweet girl has already come!

At just 4 months old and 18 pounds, Paisley may grow to be be 50 lbs or so. (Picture a smaller chocolate lab). Paisley has already learned the how to do the stairs and is learning to walk on a leash by following the lead of her foster brother, Wyatt. She loves going for morning walks and playing with the resident dog.

And when playtime is over? Paisley becomes the ultimate cuddle bug. She’ll curl up right beside you or climb into your lap and nap for hours, especially if there’s a soft blanket involved. She gives the sweetest kisses too!

Her foster family says crate training is going very well, and potty training is making great progress with consistent potty breaks, especially after waking up. She still has the occasional excited accident, because she’s a 4 month old puppy learning how to puppy!

Paisley is a happy go lucky girl, but right now she’s most comfortable with calm, patient adults. Small children may be overwhelming for her while she’s still building confidence. We expect that to continue improving as she settles into a safe home and learns that people are here to love her.

Paisley doesn’t need a perfect home. She just needs someone willing to give a puppy some patience, consistency, and time to decompress.

This handsome 43 lb, 1 year old neutered boy is the definition of happy go lucky! Lobo loves everyone, loves playing with other dogs, and is always ready for fun.
He was also showing off his best Tinder profile pose and proudly letting us know that the shaved spot on his bum cheek is growing back nicely! 😂
Lobo is fully vetted, family ready, and knows how to settle down nicely in his crate when playtime is over.

💕 Meet Yorkie! The Little Guy Who Thinks Every Lap Belongs to Him 💕

Yorkie was found as a stray on the streets of Puerto Rico, but you’d never know this sweet boy had a rough start to life by the way he loves people.

His foster mom says he is “so sweet” and “such a good boy” and that he seems completely starved for love. He wants ALL the love he can get. He loves to snuggle, likes everyone he’s met, and enjoys the company of other dogs.

He has even decided that sleeping with his foster’s granddaughter is pretty much the best thing ever. And when he isn’t cuddling with people, he’s trying to convince Colby, the resident dog, that they should be best friends. Colby isn’t always convinced, but Yorkie remains optimistic!

Yorkie has two sides. He can be incredibly chill and happy to curl up beside you, but then his puppy side takes over and suddenly it’s time to RUN! He loves to play and has taken ownership of every dog toy he can find. The pool, however, did not make his list of favorite activities. 😂

And his groomer absolutely fell for him too!

She said he was “sooooo sweet” and that whoever gets this guy is lucky. He did wonderfully for his grooming, even closing his eyes and relaxing during parts of it. He was a little nervous about having his face groomed, but responded beautifully to snuggles and kisses.

That pretty much sums up Yorkie: a little nervous sometimes, incredibly affectionate, and happiest when someone is showing him love.
