🔥🛟 Sometimes we like to draw attention to ourselves, other times we need to!

🤩Last week our crews had the opportunity to have hands on training with the use of flares alongside our partner agencies the 🧯 Virginia Beach Fire Department!

🏋️This training helps us to become more proficient with our equipment so when we need to use it, we’re ready! Additionally, it helps us better see and understand what people in distress look like, go through, and need to do in order to be better seen. 🗣️

✨While they might just look pretty, flares are what can help you get seen quicker when you need help the most. ‼️Additionally, specific vessels require that you carry them, so check the laws and regulations that apply to you! 📝

🌊 So make sure next time you’re out on the water, make sure you have some. Well think you’re cool if you do!😎

This morning at approximately 10:17, an emergency call was received for a capsized vessel near the East side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel's second island . The Virginia Beach EMS marine Rescue Team was dispatched alongside members from Virginia Beach EMS, Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Police Department, and U.S. Coast Guard East.

Our crew made it on scene and were able to help rapidly assess the situation as well as ensure no other parties were injured or in distress. Additionally, they were able to ensure the four displaced boaters that made it to the nearby rocks made it safely back on shore.

If you are in the area of where the vessel was or passing by, be advised that the vessel is still present. There is currently an orange buoy attached to it for visibility for mariners.

This incident helps highlight the importance of our partnership with Federal and Local agencies to help provide rapid responses and safe outcomes for all those involved. If you're planning to be out on the water this Fourth of July weekend, stay safe and know we're always one call away.

🥳 The weekends almost here!!! And you know what that means… our crews will be out and about on the water!!! 🌊⚓️

☀️📆 During the summer months, our dedicated volunteers strive to staff our rescue boats during peak times. During those times we patrol the waterways of Virginia Beach and help ensure residents and tourists alike are safe. 🦺🏖️

This model helps us reduce our response times and rapidly respond to water emergencies in the ocean. 🚨

So wear a life jacket, bring sunscreen and if you’re out this weekend, give us a wave and remember we’re always here when you need us. 👋

⛵️ 🇺🇸 The Fourth of July’s coming up and this year it’s the 250th Anniversary of America. With that, this weekend we’re spending some time over in Norfolk to assist with Sail250!

🛟 We’re helping out at Sail250 in providing safety to this national celebration. Sail250 is a maritime event meant to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary showcasing a variety of ships and military vessels. This event is stopping at multiple ports along the East coast hosting festivals and showcasing historical vessels and parades. 🚢

So stop by Sail250 this weekend before they leave, it’s a unique event that doesn’t come along often. If you do, don’t forget to stop by and say hi! 👋

🛟😎 Want a stylish great way to look cool? Well wearing a life jacket is a great way to reflect your impeccable fashion taste and mind for safety! 🦺

🌊🛥️When ever you’re underway, or near a large body of water, it’s always a great idea to put your life vest on. Not only do they help you serve a stylish ✨ cool look, but they help you to float up to the surface should you fall into the water, or even worse, fall in unconscious!

Even if you don’t wear a life jacket, it’s important to remember that you’re required by law to carry one U.S. Coast Guard approved jacket per person aboard and in a readily accessible location. 👮📝

So no matter when or where you go out, a life jacket’s always a smart idea! 💡
