Gift Of Wells~~lending a helping hand one water well at a time
Gift of Wells is a non-profit organization whose aim is to build water wells in Sierra Leone, thereby providing safe and sanitary water to the people of Sierra Leone. How It All Started:
Kha-Benneh Bangura, Founder and CEO of Gift of Wells, was born and raised in Magburaka, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. Growing
up in Magburaka, Kha-Benneh remembers having to walk miles every morning before going to school, to fetch water for daily use at home. Those memories are part of the inspiration behind Gift Of Wells, to help everyone have access to sanitary water– one water well at a time. Kha-Benneh (aka JayArr) has used a unique platform to tell the world about Sierra Leone and the issues he holds dear. As a musician, he had the opportunity to collaborate with nonprofit Initiative PeaceTones in 2009. PeaceTones is an organization whose aim is to support artists/musicians around the world whose communities have been devastated by social problems such as war, epidemic infections like Ebola, and natural disasters. They believe that artists can act as the voice boxes for their communities and inspire real social change. PeaceTones has been working with Kha-Benneh as their ambassador from Sierra Leone by selling music donated by musicians from Sierra Leone and holding fundraisers to support Kha-Benneh’s vision for a better Sierra Leone, to alleviate the suffering from or the potential infection with Ebola, while creating a lasting impact. Why Does It Matter:
The importance of building water wells within Sierra Leone is to bring health to its most important resource - the citizens of the country. We view water as the source of life and the ability to provide sanitary water is key in the ultimate development of Sierra Leone. In addition to building water wells throughout Sierra Leone, we also intend to provide education to the people on safe water practices. Your support and donation will go a long way in the prevention of malaria, cholera, Ebola, and other water-related diseases, which have plagued Sierra Leone and claimed the lives of many. What’s Our Vision:
We envision having a water well in every community in Sierra Leone, eliminating the need for kids to have to walk miles and/or stand in long lines to fetch sanitary water as did Kha-Benneh. Doubling down on this precious resource, by providing employment to people in the community as well, we will help people earn valuable income and invest in their community and build a lasting impact. Our Mission:
Water is essential for life, not only for the body’s physical needs but also for domestic use; yet millions of people in Sierra Leone do not have access to potable clean water. The lack of available clean water contributes to the contraction and spread of numerous waterborne diseases like Cholera, Typhoid, Ebola, etc. causing the death of millions of people annually and hindering the development of communities. Our mission therefore, is to bring portable sanitary water to the 4 corners of Sierra Leone – North, South, East and West. To ensure that every community has access to a water well from Gift Of Wells in the next few years, provide education for safe water practices and provide employment opportunities for people in those communities along the way is our sole purpose.
