Tis the season for native blue wood aster, Symphyotrichum cordifolium. This care-free native perennial grows in moist or dry conditions in shade or sun. It is basically fool proof. The best part is that it not only livens up the fall garden with flowers but is a pollinator favorite! There were six bumble bees on this small patch when the photo was taken. 🐝

Small but mighty. The flowers of Osmanthus fragrans may be small but their wonderful scent can be detected yards away! If you are outside walking or riding your bike in the fall and you are overcome with a delightful scent, chances are it is this plant. It blooms heavily in early fall and sporadically into winter. Evergreen and low maintenance. This is a garden favorite!

Good morning! I thought I’d share a great tool I found to help identify and learn about the plants that surround us. I’ve been using the ‘Picture This’ app for some time professionally and personally to help me when I don’t know what a species is. It’s a fantastic resource that I highly recommend. It’s very simple, download it, take a photo of the plant in question and within minutes it gives you the full story on the plant. Just this morning I found myself stumped over milkweed and as you can see it provided me with the insight I needed.

Spotted this Zebra swallowtail on a beautiful Eastern purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). These plants are a great addition to any garden - easy to grow, drought-tolerant, and (as you can see here) attract butterflies and other pollinators. 🦋

It’s tomato season (AKA best time of the year)!! 🍅 Get out of here store-bought tomatoes! The ones you grow are always much more flavorful. Soooo ready for salsa, tomato pie, and bruschetta 😋 What’s your favorite thing to make with garden-fresh tomatoes?
