We are the voice of mental illness paving the way of hope in Coastal Virginia through education

NAMI Coastal Virginia is a nonprofit, community-run organization that advocates those affected by serious mental illness. We offer ongoing education and training programs, support groups, and a 24/7 helpline. We connect to people with the goal of improving the quality of life for recovering individuals and their families. NAMI Coastal Virginia advocates at the local, state, and national levels to eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness and is committed to improving the lives of the community at large through free educational programs and community-wide inclusion.

NAMI Support Groups are peer-led, confidential, supportive, and open to anyone 18 and older. Gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others facing similar circumstances in groups facilitated by trained leaders who’ve been there.

Llama Social Bowling League:
This Friday, 10/16 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
at Bowlero Lynnhaven, 2601 Lishelle Pl, Virginia Beach, VA 23452

$7.00 for NAMI members when they bowl with our group on Fridays. Regular price for non-members. You can join NAMI at the bowling alley.

Cost includes two games and shoes. Plan to arrive early so there is time to get shoes, ball, and names in the system.

We joined Coast Live on WTKR News 3 to talk about NAMIWalks Coastal Virginia, presented by WSKY-SKY4 TV!

Each year, we stroll breezily along the safe, sturdy boardwalk at the Oceanfront. Then we turn around and walk the sand.

The same walk that just felt so easy and stable is suddenly difficult. The distance is the same, but each step takes more effort. We trudge slowly and tirelessly.

Mental health can feel a lot like this. Some days are breezy. Other days can take enormous effort, even when the distance looks the same on the outside.

We can't always see who's quietly walking on life's sands. But on October 17th, we all walk together to make the invisible, visible. We struggle together, and we always make it back to solid ground.

There are no support groups scheduled on the 5th Tuesday or Wednesday of the month. Our only activity this week is our Friday social bowling league.

We will be back to weekly support groups next week.

We spent last Saturday celebrating our community of NAMI volunteers at Hunt Club Farm, among the real-life llamas!

It is because of our volunteers that we are able to offer our services at no charge, share NAMI's information with our community, and work on initiatives that will improve our corner of the world here in coastal Virginia!

Thank you for you for being a part of our community, and for making NAMI Coastal Virginia what we are today. Your presence is invaluable 💙

A sneak peek of NAMIWalks Coastal Virginia, presented by WSKY-SKY4 TV!

If you needed one more reason to join us on October 17th, we've got coffee, yoga, crafts and vendors galore!

But the main reason we walk is always the same -- to support individuals with mental health conditions and their families.

A new Peer-to-Peer class is starting this week!

What does my diagnosis mean? How do I navigate the medical field? How do I tell my loved ones about my experiences?

We've got good news and bad news.

The bad news is that this month's Llama Social Club will be cancelled.

The good news? We're still having fun, but with a change of venue.

We'll be at the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival this Saturday. Even if you've never volunteered with NAMI before, you can join us for the parade to show out for mental health!

Artificial Intelligence has, almost overnight, seeped into seemingly every aspect of our society. Students and young people especially have gravitated toward experimenting with AI for schoolwork, advice and even companionship.

But what are kids actually talking about with chatbots? And what is it doing to their brains?

High School senior and NAMI Student Ambassador, Conner, wanted to explore these questions and more. Join us to discuss his findings and talk about the intersection on AI and youth mental health on Tuesday.
