The 9/11 Heroes Run unites communities internationally with the goal to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11th and the wars since: veteran, first responder, civilian and military. Five years ago the Manion family - through the Travis Manion Foundation - hosted the first 9/11 Heroes Run in their hometown of Doylestown, PA -- More than twenty-five 5K races from Boston to Orlando
, NYC to San Diego, and places in between on the 10th Anniversary of the terror attacks on our nation
There were races also in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guam, England, and aboard ships in the Persian Gulf
Money raised is dispersed as follows:
-50% goes directly to local charity(s) at each race location (selected by Local Race Directors are approved by Travis Manion Foundation)
The chosen charities for the Virginia Beach 9/11 Heroes Run are:
1. 31 Heroes
2. Provides “Challenge Grants” to survivors of the fallen to help them accomplish a goal that would honor the memory of a fallen service member
b. Pairs wounded/disabled veterans with families of the fallen
2. Character Does Matter Leadership Program
a. Calls to action young men and women to develop their character by seeking “If not me, then who…” moments in their everyday life
