Meal prices:
Breakfast: $1.70
Lunch: $3.15
Prices may vary based on whether the student qualifies for paid, reduced-price, or free meals.
Negative meal balances:
Parents/guardians are responsible for paying meal charges.
Families with negative balances will receive weekly email notifications and automated phone calls.
A student cannot purchase a la carte items while their meal account has a negative balance.
Unpaid balances remain with the student while enrolled and may be sent to the Virginia Beach City Treasurer’s Office for collection after the student leaves the district.
How to pay:
Pay with cash or check at the school cafeteria.
Pay online through SchoolCafé using a credit or debit card.
Checks should be payable to Office of Food Services and include the student's name and/or ID.
Free/reduced-price meals:
Families who qualify can apply through SchoolCafé or obtain a paper application from their child's school.
Benefits do not apply retroactively to meals charged before the application is approved.
Income eligibility:
For 2026–2027, free meals are available to households within the federal income limits.
Reduced-price meals are available at higher income levels.
For example, a household of 4 qualifies based on annual income of:
Free meals: $42,900 or less
Reduced-price meals: $42,900.01–$61,050
