Some legacies are written. Others are shared around the table.

As Shavuot approaches, members of the Tidewater Jewish Foundation Board shared favorite recipes connected to family, gathering, and the traditions that continue to shape Jewish life across generations.

From braided challah to pareve cheesecake, we invite you to explore this special Shavuot message from TJF and reflect on the moments, memories, and rituals we carry forward together.

The “Jewish mother” is often portrayed with humor and affection. Fiercely protective, deeply caring, always making sure everyone is fed, connected, and cared for.

But beyond the stereotype is something profoundly real: Jewish women have long been the quiet architects of community.

They preserve traditions. They create belonging. They carry Jewish life forward.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate all mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, mentors, and the women whose strength and compassion shape our community every day.

We are especially proud to honor the women of the Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE), whose generosity is helping create lasting pathways for Jewish continuity in Tidewater and beyond.

They have created something that will endure.

Happy Mother’s Day from Tidewater Jewish Foundation.

These are the conversations we’re having at TJF right now.
How do you move from giving… to giving with purpose?

In the April 16 edition of Jewish News, TJF Board Member Jay Kossman shares how he and his family approach philanthropy with intention, focusing on long-term impact, investing early in identity and leadership, and helping others connect to the “why” behind their giving.

This is exactly the kind of thinking shaping our work across the community.

“It’s not just what you give. It’s how thoughtfully you choose to give.”

Legacy is not only what we leave behind — it is what we build today.
Through endowments, donor-advised funds, and planned giving, at Tidewater Jewish Foundation, we partner with our community to ensure that Jewish life in Tidewater remains strong, resilient, and responsive.

Every legacy gift tells a story of values passed forward. Of faith in the future. Of commitment to something greater than ourselves.

If you would like to explore how to create or grow your legacy, we invite you to connect with our team for a confidential conversation.
