Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad

Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad Founded in 1942, OPVRS is the oldest ambulance service in the City of Virginia Beach.

We provide the highest level of emergency care to citizens and visitors of VB. The department was founded in 1942 at the request of the Ocean Park Civic League to provide fire protection. The department was staffed by volunteers of the Ocean Park Men’s Club, which later became known as the Ocean Park Volunteer Fire Department. In the 1950’s a used Army field ambulance was purchased and staffed by

the Ocean Park Women’s Club, allowing the department to provide fire and medical services to the community.

As our nation marks 250 years, Memorial Day reminds us that America’s story has been shaped by generations of service, sacrifice, and courage.

Today, Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad pauses to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice protects the freedoms, communities, and neighbors we are privileged to serve.
May we remember them not only today, but in the way we care for one another every day.

We want to send a big THANK YOU to the always amazing Susan with the Great Neck Point Garden Club for helping coordinate our two-day Plant Sale Fundraiser over the last two weeks. Through sun and rain we had an amazing turn out. Additionally we want to thank our awesome volunteer team members for attending both events.
Finally, thank you to the Shore Drive Farm Market for being such a great host. We are very grateful for your support year after year.

As EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad would like to thank our incredible medical provider volunteers.

Your dedication, compassion, training, and service make a difference every day. Whether responding to emergencies, caring for patients, training for the next call, or supporting our community behind the scenes, you represent the very best of volunteer EMS.

To our EMTs, Advanced EMTs, Paramedics, support members, and every volunteer who helps keep our squad ready to serve: thank you.

As we wrap up EMS Week, we invite our community to join us in showing appreciation. Please leave a message of thanks or gratitude for our volunteers in the comments below.

We continue to celebrate EMS Week 2026 and highlight our volunteer team members who continue their education and sharpen their skills! These photos were taken in the Pediatric Triage Simulator. With flashing emergency lights and crying children, this program helps our medical providers focus on providing care in difficult environments.

Training never stops for our Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad members.

Several of our volunteers attended the Tidewater EMS Expo, where they had the opportunity to sharpen their skills, practice hands-on scenarios, and learn more about current trends in emergency medical services.

Whether they are responding to calls, maintaining equipment, attending classes, or practicing lifesaving skills, our volunteers are always working to provide the best possible care to our community.

We are proud of their commitment to learning, growing, and serving. Neighbors helping neighbors. Neighbors saving neighbors.
