🇺🇸 A Special Day Honoring the Life and Legacy of CPL Mark Goyet, USMC 🇺🇸

Today, Martha and I had the incredible honor of attending the 1st Annual CPL Mark Goyet Lacrosse Games, and what an amazing and emotional experience it was!

The event brought together four lacrosse teams from Virginia and Pennsylvania for a day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and, most importantly, remembrance.

What made this event especially meaningful was that it was the vision of Chris Burke, Associate Lacrosse Coach at Hampton University, who served alongside our son Mark and was with him when he was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2011.

For Chris to honor Mark's memory in such a special way means more to Martha and me than words can express. We are forever grateful for his friendship, dedication, and commitment to keeping Mark's legacy alive.

❤️ One of the most memorable moments of the day was the opportunity for Martha and me to speak with all four teams and their coaches. Gathering two teams at a time in large circles at midfield, we shared Mark's story—who he was as a young man, his love for life, his service to our country, and his ultimate sacrifice.

Looking into the faces of these young athletes as they listened to Mark's story was an incredibly moving experience. These are the moments that remind us why we work so hard to ensure Mark is never forgotten.

The event was also a wonderful fundraising success!

Through the generosity of those who attended, the Corporal Mark Goyet Memorial Foundation (CMGMF) will receive $5 from every $10 admission ticket sold, along with 100% of all donations collected. We anticipate approximately $1,500 in proceeds!

Even more remarkable, the entire event was organized and conducted at absolutely no cost to the Foundation, allowing every dollar raised to support our mission.

But as wonderful as the fundraising was, the greatest gift was the opportunity to share Mark's story with a new generation of young men.

Martha and I left today with hearts full of gratitude, pride, and emotion. Seeing Mark's name honored, his story shared, and his legacy embraced by these young athletes was truly something special.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Chris Burke, the participating teams, coaches, organizers, volunteers, and everyone who supported this event. Your kindness and generosity mean more to our family than you can imagine.

We sincerely hope the CPL Mark Goyet Lacrosse Games become an annual tradition that continues to grow for many years to come!

Our mission has always been about more than scholarships and fundraising. It is about ensuring that Mark's life, service, sacrifice, and legacy continue to inspire others. Today was a beautiful example of that mission in action.

🇺🇸 Mark may be gone from our sight, but he will never be forgotten.

Semper Fidelis! ❤️🇺🇸

Dear Prospective Sponsor/Donor/Participant,

On June 28, 2011, Mark Goyet was killed in action in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan during a firefight while securing a village. In November 2014, the Corporal Mark Goyet Memorial Foundation, Inc. (CMGMF) was established to honor his life, legacy of service, and ultimate sacrifice through the awarding of educational scholarships and grants.

CMGMF is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity (Tax ID #47-2390328). Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $275,000 in scholarships to deserving college student-veterans and graduating high school students in Virginia, Texas, and Maine.

Each year, CMGMF hosts its Annual Golf Classic — the Foundation’s primary fundraising event — to generate the resources necessary to continue supporting scholarship recipients, including graduating Virginia Beach NJROTC students committed to careers in service and leadership.

The 12th Annual CMGMF Golf Classic is scheduled for 1200, September 11, 2026 at Honey Bee Golf Club in Virginia Beach.
