If you’ve visited the Indian River Family YMCA, chances are you’ve met Brenda, their unofficial 'official' greeter. Driven by her love for the Y, she is here almost every day to welcome both long-time members and fresh faces, hoping her bright energy lifts everyone’s day. No matter what kind of day she is having, Brenda is dedicated to greeting everyone with a warm, radiant smile that inspires and motivates. This photo says it all. Al is here with his family, standing beside the two women, Kassie and Kelly, whose quick action helped make this moment possible.

When Al went into cardiac arrest, Kassie and Kelly stepped in, performed CPR and used an AED. Their quick action gave Al more time: more birthdays, more celebrations, more ordinary days with the people who love him and more days with us at the Y.

Kassie and Kelly are finalists for WTKR News 3’s Humanitarian of the Year Award, and only a couple of days remain to vote.

They showed up for Al and his family when it mattered most. Now it’s our turn to show up for them.

Moments like this remind us why community partnerships matter so much. We are deeply grateful to Suffolk Public Schools for trusting our Suffolk Family YMCA team with their students’ water safety this summer. Seeing these sweet drawings and thank-you notes reminds us that building confidence around the water is a true team effort for our entire community!

This one warms our hearts! 💙🥹

Every summer, we partner with Suffolk Public Schools to provide FREE Safety Around Water programming to roughly 200 students, helping ensure that kids in our community have the skills and confidence they need to be safer in and around water. 🏊‍♀️

And then we received these precious thank-you notes from some of our participants! 🥹💙

We’re not crying… you’re crying! 😭

This is why we do what we do. Water safety saves lives, and every child deserves the opportunity to learn.

🇺🇸 Celebrate the spirit of the Fourth of July through fun, fitness, and friendly competition at the YMCA Independence Day 5K!

Last year, over 700 runners, walkers, and supporters from across the community came together for this annual celebration. There's even something for the little ones; you can sign them up for the 1/4 mile tot trot!

When you step to the starting line, you're also stepping up for the community. The YMCA Independence Day 5K benefits the Y’s Impact Fund, helping ensure that everyone in our community has access to life-changing programs and services regardless of their ability to pay.

Even in January, there's lots to see at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.
We clocked in just over 2 miles walking the garden seeing some incredible sights, and that was just half of it!
