Our next board member is a familiar and beloved voice in Hampton Roads, who spent 31 years as a reporter and anchor with . As the Master of Ceremonies for our Annual Gala, we are pleased to introduce:

Joe Flanagan

🌟 Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m honored to be a part of the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation and to have the opportunity to support an organization that makes such a meaningful difference in the lives of Hospice patients and their families.

💜 Why did you join LBHF?
“Brenda Cobb invited me to join her board at the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation, and I could not resist. Sure, I had a direct connection to the media, but I also felt motivated to really participate and contribute to what I had seen Brenda and others do.”

✨ What do intentional acts of kindness mean to you?
“That work is all about love and support and lending a hand when a person is facing an end-of-life situation.

So far, my involvement has been very rewarding. I walked a bride down the aisle. Yes, but in this case, it was from her bedroom floor to be joined in marriage to her terminally ill husband. SO touching.”

💜 Why should others support LBHF and/or attend the gala?
“The Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation is a very special organization that truly meets people at the times they need help the most.

I support LBHF as much as I can, and I encourage everyone to join us so we can make life a little bit better for the people and the patients in Hampton Roads.”

🌟 Fun fact about you:
“When I stood in line for an hour to meet Muhammad Ali, he kissed the three beautiful women in front of me. So I then said, ‘I wish I were a woman right now.’

Yes. Muhammad Ali leaned over and kissed my cheek. I told him I’ll never wash that cheek again. True story!”

💜 Thank you, Joe, for helping us continue to make every moment matter!

🌿 National Relaxation Day 🌿

Today is a reminder that sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone is simply a moment of peace, comfort, and care. 💜

For hospice patients and their families, quiet moments can mean so much — a warm blanket, a favorite song, a gentle conversation, a peaceful afternoon, or simply being surrounded by the people they love.

At LBHF Foundations, we believe every moment matters. Through memory gifts and acts of kindness, we strive to bring comfort, dignity, joy, and meaningful memories to hospice patients when they need it most. 💜✨

Today, take a moment to slow down, breathe deeply, and cherish the people who matter most.

Because sometimes, a little comfort can create a lasting memory. 💜

Let's start this week of right with another board member highlight.

✨ Introducing: Karl Bethea

🌟 Tell us a little about yourself:
As Lorraine’s husband, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the love, compassion, and dedication she poured into caring for Hospice patients and their families. After years of serving others through healthcare organizations, Lorraine followed her heart and answered what she believed was her true calling.

I watched her turn her passion for helping others into a place where patients could experience comfort, dignity, love, and peace during one of life’s most difficult journeys. I was incredibly proud of the work she did and the lives she touched. What began as Lorraine’s calling became a lasting part of her legacy—and ultimately the inspiration behind the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation.

Less than 3 years later, in January 2015, Lorraine passed away. Her last days in Hospice Care while battling stage 4 colon cancer.

💜 Why did you join LBHF?
“Brenda Cobb, one of Lorraine’s dearest and best friends, asked me if I wanted to be a part of the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation. I am truly Blessed and honored to be a part of the organization that bears my wife’s name."

✨ What do intentional acts of kindness mean to you?
“The Intentional Acts of Kindness for Hospice patients and their families are a direct reflection of Lorraine’s Love!!!"

💜 Why should others support LBHF and/or attend the gala?
“By supporting the LBHF you enable us to provide a Light in the Darkness and by attending the Annual LBHF Gala, not only will you have a wonderfully beautiful evening but you’ll also gain a bit of insight about our purpose."

🌟 Fun fact about you:
“I sat next to Curly Neal of the Harlem Globetrotters on a flight from Atlanta, GA back home to New Jersey. He shared some great stories and was a very kind extremely humble man.”

💜 Thank you for helping us continue to make every moment matter!

💐 Memory Gift Alert 💐

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is helping someone feel seen, celebrated, and deeply loved.

Recently, the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation had the honor of creating a beautiful day for Teresa, one of our hospice patients. Every detail was thoughtfully chosen with her in mind—from a professional haircut and hairstyle to her favorite red and yellow roses, and a sweet assortment of Nothing Bundt Cakes in her favorite flavors.

What may have looked like a simple afternoon became something so much more.

Teresa smiled throughout the day, enjoyed being pampered, and expressed heartfelt gratitude for each thoughtful surprise. Even more meaningful was the joy shared with her daughter, who was by her side to experience these precious moments together. Together, they created memories that will be cherished for years to come.

A special thank you to our hospice social worker, Sharita, for recognizing this meaningful opportunity, and to LBHF Board Members Brenda Cobb and Robin Wallace, whose compassion and presence made the day even more memorable. Their kindness is a beautiful reflection of what Memory Gifts Through Acts of Kindness is all about.

💙 Do you know a hospice patient who could benefit from a Memory Gift?

If you know someone receiving hospice care who would be blessed by a special act of kindness, we encourage you to speak with their hospice social worker about submitting a referral to the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation. Together, we can create meaningful moments that bring comfort, joy, and lasting memories when they matter most.

Because every person deserves to feel loved. Every moment and memory matters.
