We continue to investigate folks that on the front lines of feeding kids in Hampton Roads.

Tuesday, James Speller and I met with Joe Friszolowshi who heads up Mercy Drops for kids that are falling through the cracks in Portsmouth. He has a warehouse off of McLean St in Portsmouth and daily goes knocking on doors in three of the toughest areas in Portsmouth. He meets with the kids (most of which are home by themselves) and provides them with shelf stable foods. These are kids that are in the "dead zones" and not serviced by the local school systems.

He gets some food delivered from Operation Blessing and has a friend that PFG that helps him out with a refrigerated truck.

This guy is the real deal and is living daily with the hopes that the community and local folks will keep his outreach sustainable through August.

His lunch bags provide 10 meals for the week and he is currently serving about 500 kids. .

If any one want to jump in and support, simply visit our website and click on donations. Note Mercy Drops.

A Local Hero nominee: Debbie Beck

"I, John Koehler, being of sometimes sound mind amidst moments of silliness, hereby and forthwith nominate Debbie Beck for a Noble Deed Award.

Debbie works at a local UPS shipping center, and is on the front line of contact with employees and clients, making sure every day they get the shipments they need. She also practices sound social distancing and the use of PPE as needed to protect her customers.

Debbie is in every way a first responder when it comes to delivering to Americans the things they need to survive and thrive. While some step back to protect themselves during the pandemic, Debbie steps forward every day and puts herself in harms way like a good soldier, risking her all.

Her acts of kindness are in no way random, but are planned and executed day after day, like so many workers across America. Debbie makes our world better and risks her life every day for our sake.

For these reasons and more, I nominate my sister Debbie Beck for a Noble Deed Award."

A Local Hero nominee: Nevein Jeff

"I would like to nominate Nevein for organizing hospital meals weekly during these unprecedented times. She contacted the appropriate people and organized this on her own! She collected donations and food from various local restaurants as well as individuals. She got people to help with the delivery of food to the different hospitals. She continues to branch out weekly to different hospitals in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. She is always thinking about how she can help others and has outdone herself with this! So proud to call her my friend!!!"
