These individuals, often fleeing violence in Haiti, provide essential care to vulnerable elderly and disabled Americans. The potential loss of thousands of caregivers, particularly in states like Florida, threatens to deepen existing labor shortages in long-term care. Healthcare providers warn that disrupting these relationships is more than a staffing issue; it jeopardizes continuity of care and personal bonds with patients. For many, like 91-year-old Solange French, losing her Haitian aide, Martha Nelson, would make life "impossible," illustrating immigration policy's profound human impact on daily healthcare. An aging population further underscores the urgent need for these dedicated caregivers.

Ending Temporary Protected Status for Haitians could deepen an already-strained caregiving shortage, leaving elderly and disabled Americans caught in the middle.

On the Supreme Court's TPS ruling and what it means for Haitian communities
On June 25, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration can move forward with ending Temporary Protected Status for approximately 350,000 Haitians currently living and working in the United States. The ruling creates significant uncertainty about work authorization, deportation timelines, and what comes next, legally and politically.
