, we recognize the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.

The observance commemorates the uprising that began in Saint-Domingue in August 1791, when enslaved people rose against a brutal system of oppression. Their resistance helped ignite the Haitian Revolution and ultimately led to the establishment of Haiti as the world's first independent Black republic.

Today, we remember the millions of people subjected to the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade and honor those who resisted enslavement and fought for freedom.

Their resistance is part of a history that continues to shape movements for racial justice today.

Justice Is Community Summit, a first-of-its-kind event in Central Virginia.

Justice is built in community. Join neighbors, advocates, and practitioners at the Justice Is Community Summit to explore real stories and practical tools for community safety in Central Virginia.

A two-day summit that showcases work on restorative justice and reentry and the connections between these areas. The gathering works to move the community from awareness to action, emphasizing their role in the public safety ecosystem.

This summit is free and open to the public. Any amount donated with this ticket will go towards the costs of the event (food & drinks, honorariums for speakers, sponsoring orgs' staff time, etc.).

Our ancestors fought, bled, and died for our civil rights. On August 28, 1963, over 250,000 people rallied in Washington, D.C. for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom to demand an end to segregation, fair wages, voting rights, equal education, and long overdue civil rights protections.

Over 60 years later, we continue the march and fight for our rights, just like our ancestors. On August 28, join us in D.C. to honor this historic moment in civil rights and demand better for ourselves and future generations.
