While a recent study made headlines for the worst case scenario it outlined for Louisiana’s coast, we want to focus on the solution it named that would better protect us: sediment diversions. The study makes it clear - Gov. Landry’s decision to cancel the Mid-Barataria and Mid-Breton sediment diversions puts us in more danger.

According to the study “abandoning large sediment diversions effectively means giving up on extensive portions of coastal Louisiana, including the New Orleans area.”

This information is not new. These projects were studied for years and backed by coastal residents, stakeholders, scientists, and decision makers.

Giving up on the coast isn’t a strategy. Fighting for it is.

We need many different projects to protect and restore our coast, and sediment diversions are a VERY important piece of that puzzle. 🌱 Click the link in our bio to send a message to decision makers: we need these projects, and these project need their support.

Today is National Mississippi River Day!

The Mississippi River built the wetlands that support wildlife, sustain fisheries, and help protect coastal communities. It shaped the landscapes that define Louisiana’s coast and connected generations of people to the water.

Today we’re celebrating the river that made it all possible and the restoration efforts that can help ensure it continues to sustain our coast for generations to come.

🌱 It’s not too late to implement the projects we need to preserve and protect our coast, communities and culture. Built on decades of science, sediment diversions are our best bet. Click the link in our bio to let decision makers know that cancellation was a mistake - and that Louisianans still support this project. 🌱

Today is International Day of Biological Diversity, a reminder that healthy ecosystems support the wildlife, habitats and communities that make Louisiana unique.

Dr. Eva Hillmann, chief scientist with Pontchartrain Conservancy, joined FOX 8 to discuss why biodiversity matters and highlight the connections between people and the natural systems around us.

Protecting and restoring Louisiana’s coast helps sustain the wetlands and habitats that countless species depend on, strengthening our coast for future generations. 🌎🌿

“The decisions we make right now still matter.”

In a new op-ed for The Lens, former director of Restore the Mississippi River Delta Steve Cochran writes that while Louisiana’s coast faces enormous challenges from sea level rise and land loss, the future is not fixed. The science makes clear that the choices we make today, and whether we continue investing in large-scale restoration projects, will shape the future of our communities, wetlands, wildlife, and economy.

Louisiana’s future depends on whether we choose to keep moving restoration efforts forward. Read the full op-ed here: https://thelensnola.org/2026/05/14/the-decisions-we-make-now-still-matter-for-louisianas-coast/
