"My Brothers and Sisters, all honest labor is honorable." - Vice President, Third Degree

Those words from our Grange Ritual are just as meaningful today as when they were first spoken.

Today we celebrate everyone whose hard work keeps our communities moving forward: farmers, ranchers, teachers, healthcare workers, first responders, truck drivers, tradespeople, small business owners, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and so many others. Every job, when done cheerfully and with integrity, makes a difference.

The National Grange was founded on the belief that work has dignity, communities are strongest when we support one another, and every person deserves to have their contributions valued.

Here's to the hands that build, grow, teach, heal, create, and serve. Happy Labor Day from the National Grange!

Folks have been asking how we can help the Stead area fire victims. These are legit entities that you can donate to. Be cautious with the Go fund me requests. The company will try to screen them, but there are scams. Best to donate to people you can confirm. CAthi Litz, a long tome Chilcoot resident has posted a close friend’s GFM on her FB page. Stick to those if that’s your thing. 🥰

**A Place to Gather.**

In 1931, farmers and families across Sierra Valley came together around a simple idea: rural communities are stronger when people have a place to gather, share ideas, solve problems and look after one another.

They formed Sierra Valley Grange #466.

Members held dances, raised money and pooled their resources to build the Grange Hall in Vinton in 1934. Just one year later, Sierra Valley had become the largest Grange in California.

For generations, these kinds of fraternal organizations were part of the fabric of rural America—not simply clubs, but places where neighbors organized for the common good. Here, the Grange helped advocate for roads, electricity and water while providing education, supporting agriculture and giving the community somewhere to celebrate, mourn, learn, dance and gather.

That tradition continues.

Weddings and funerals. 4-H meetings and farm gatherings. Dinners, dances and Cowboy Poetry. And, each fall, the Art + Ag Trail.

Nearly a century later, the Grange still reminds us that caring for a place means more than tending its land.

Sometimes, it means tending to one another.

We are so lucky to have Gary Romano and Sierra Vally Farmers Market!

🌽 National Farmers Market Week reminds us that every dollar spent at a local farmers market has an impact far beyond your grocery bag.

Farmers markets generated $1.7 billion in direct-to-consumer sales, and every $1 million in local farm revenue supports an average of 13 full-time farm jobs. When you shop locally, you're helping family farms thrive, creating jobs, and keeping money circulating in your own community.

This week, skip one trip to the supermarket and visit a local farmers market instead. Meet the people who grow your food, discover seasonal produce, and invest in the future of local agriculture.

📍 What's your favorite farmers market in your community? Give them a shoutout below!
