On July 21 and 22, we took our annual 4-H club trip.
Day 1: Our first stop was at the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum in Waterloo, IA. We learned about John Deere, a blacksmith who originally made plows before purchasing the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company and entering the tractor business. We had fun testing how much horsepower we could pull, trying our hand at an old-fashioned plow, and seeing how tractors have evolved over the years.
Our second stop was at the Kettleson Brothers Onion and Potato Farm near Fertile, IA. We enjoyed learning about the equipment used to plant and harvest onions and potatoes, but the highlight was walking through the field, seeing the plants up close, and learning about peat soil. Be sure to look for Kettleson Brothers potatoes and onions in your local grocery store this fall!
To round out the first day, we enjoyed the water park at Great Wolf Lodge.
On Day 2, we continued our fun at the water park before making our final stop at the SPAM Museum in Austin, MN. Did you know that SPAM is fully cooked inside the can it's packaged in?
