Introducing “Adopt A Shoreline” — A Simple Way to Make a Big Difference
This Earth Day, the Lagoon Pond Association is launching a new community initiative: Adopt A Shoreline.

Our shoreline is one of our most valuable natural resources, but it depends on all of us. With this program, LPA members can take ownership of a small section of shoreline, helping to keep it clean, healthy, and thriving.

If you live on Lagoon Pond, we invite you to adopt your own shoreline, caring for the stretch right outside your home and becoming a visible steward of the water year-round.

Participants will:
• Care for a designated stretch of shoreline
• Remove trash and debris regularly
• Keep an eye out for issues that may impact water quality

As a thank-you—and a symbol of community pride—each participating household will receive a shoreline sign recognizing their stewardship.

Our goal is to create a visible network of neighbors working together to protect Lagoon Pond one stretch at a time.

Interested in adopting a section?
Scan the QR code or visit this link to sign up: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXVAyT-HSTxQT_xwaF0yjLlulYXPg9kytxwWxlCT54U4qJkg/viewform
Not on the water? You can still take part by adopting and caring for a public shoreline area.

Together, small actions add up to lasting change. 🌎

Dear Lagoon Pond Community,
MV CYANO, a collaborative initiative among Island Boards of Health and scientists from Great Pond Foundation, has identified a cyanobacteria bloom at Upper Lagoon Pond and the Oak Bluffs Board of Health has issued a cyanobacteria bloom “ADVISORY” for the area directly south of the herring run and “WATCH” directly north of the herring run. Cyanobacteria concentrations around the herring run are indicative of a cyanobacteria population that could potentially pose adverse health risks. The algal material is currently concentrated around the herring run, where prevailing winds have likely concentrated the algal mat that is floating at the surface. Go to https://greatpondfoundation.org/mvcyano/ for more information.
