It's on! We're having a celebration for Sidney Morris!
Sunday, October 13th, 2024 at 5pm
at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury, MA (on Martha's Vineyard)

Feel free to arrive anytime between 4:30 and 5pm. There will likely be some animals to visit with, and of course open space in which to run around, and Bruce MacNelly playing guitar. We will gather in the big hall at 5pm and spend some time remembering and celebrating Sidney.

There may be time for folks to share a brief memory or story. If there is not, we hope you'll consider sharing your favorite stories (and photos) of Sidney with us on the Learnmv.org website.

After the remembrance, there will be a light supper and time to check out some Sid memorabilia. Around 7:30pm, DJ Christopher will spin some of Sid's beloved "Oldies" for us to dance to.

Feel free to join us for any part of the celebration. Including clean-up, starting at 9pm. 😊

If you'd like to "pot luck" (as per island tradition), a finger-food dessert would be welcome, but not necessary.

For those who've been asking, the Zoom link is posted! I will post the link again here on FB in a separate post after I confirm details with the tech guy. :-)

(Hi all, it's Lily, Sidney's daughter, here again. For the time being, you can assume it's me posting here on Sidney's account :-)

My mom, Margaret Knight, and I were just talking about how much we love MABEL, the boat that my dad, Sidney Morris, commissioned Myles Thurlow to build in the early 2000s. (I think he was 17 or even younger when he designed her. Myles, feel free to chime in here.) MABEL was to be used for a then-budding maritime program on MV, Vineyard Voyagers; a sea-going version of an adventure expedition program originally conceived of by Malcolm Boyd for high school students in the 1990s. (is this right, Malcolm?).

And then my mom reminded me that she had written a piece awhile back about being in love with MABEL. 💙

Dear friends and family of Sidney. 🦋

It has been so sweet and nurturing to read all of your comments and posts since July (we're reading them all, even if we don't respond). Thank you. 💙

I'm working on an online tribute for my dad, and I would love your help. *I'm guessing if you've posted something on FB about Sidney, you'll probably be ok with me sharing it on the LearnMV.org tribute pages, but if not, please DM me here on Sid's FB.* I won't transfer all of the comments but some of them capture the essence of Sidney so well, and I'd love to make sure those who aren't on the "Socials" get to enjoy your reflections, too.

And if you have more to share about Sidney, memories/stories (audio or short videos are welcome) or photos, please visit www.learnmv.org and use the "get involved" form, or send us an email (address is on the website).

with gratitude, Lily

The boy who cried LAUNCH for the past three weeks is putting out one final cheer to get Mabel in the water. This coming Saturday, June 25th, at 4:30 pm, we will endeavor to roll her down the rails and float her on the high tide. All hands are invited for a potluck picnic and frolic on the Cape Pogue Pond beach at Cove Meadow, where the water is shallow for wee ones. We'll launch Mabel and eat and play. We can also walk the crescent beach around and swim over to East Beach for the 'big water'.

I can pick up people at the Chappy ferry who want to leave the hassle of a vehicle behind. So let me know if this outing calls to you and you want to be on the launching crew. I would really love to make it to the water this time!

Our locally grown initiative harnessed the energy of young sailors and the wind to deliver organic vegetables to market. Students harvested produce from The FARM Institute on Katama Farm and set sail on a fair tide from down harbor in Edgartown to deliver their goods to market at the Tisbury Farmers Market in Vineyard Haven. An adventure into the Island’s heritage, Mabel to Table explored the past and present of Island agriculture and seafaring, while participants gained skills and confidence to chart their own course into the future.

A Saturday afternoon sail, anyone?

To Chappaquiddick and back...under sail and oars.

Sailed onto the mooring in Vineyard Haven just three hours after getting underway in Cape Pogue Pond. Following breeze, seas and tide with a few raindrops and a delicious lunch made the trip quite enjoyable. Good luck to the Vision Fellows this year, as they work toward sustainability on Martha's Vineyard. It was a pleasure, and we are already looking forward to next year, and the new adventures we will encounter.
