Content that violates Facebook’s policies may also be reported. The Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha's Vineyard has been providing an open, liberal religious presence on the island of Martha's Vineyard since 1860, when, on July 18 of that year, "a small group of men seeking religious opportunity" founded what was first called The Unity Church of Holmes Hole, Massachusetts. Now, 143 years later, we still share our founders' vision - to provide an opportunity where people are united in respecting the importance of each individual and in believing that the final test of a religious community is the service that community can give toward the enrichment of human lives. To become a member is simple – sign the Membership Book – and at the same time profound – you become an integral part of an active religious community. We are a member society of the Unitarian Universalist Association which emphasizes working principles rather than doctrines. It is a non-creedal religion which respects the diversity and intelligence of people.

We hope you can join us in person or online on Sunday, September 20th for "In Our End Is Our Beginning" with Rev. Vicky Hanjian
We’re at the end of “the season” - the end of the hustle and bustle of the Ag Fair - the end of long hours of sunlight - the end of heavy traffic - the end of the lush greenery of summer. Our seasonal endings result in the inevitable beginnings - - beginning to prepare for the annual CROP Walk - - beginning to harvest and glean produce that will feed food insecure people through the winter - beginning to think about the “holiday season.” Every ending makes space for a new beginning. This week’s sermon will reflect on our endings and our beginnings - and how we navigate the transitions between what was and what is coming into being.

As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that the vote is sacred. We know that democracy isn’t something we watch from the sidelines. It’s something we build and defend together.

On October 17, we are making sure every eligible voter knows their options for how to vote, has a plan to vote early where local law allows, and is ready to make their voice count. Join us.

She claims to be almost completely semi-retired, but continues with preaching, writing, teaching writing, and her activity in the UU retired Ministers Association.

We hope you can join us this Sunday, August 16 for “Midwifing Moral Courage” with Rev. Vicky Hanjian
(No Zoom Option this Sunday)
“Love as a midwife to moral courage reframes bravery not as a loud, aggressive force, but as a painful, necessary labor of care. Like a midwife, love does not create the potential for courage from nothing; instead, it holds space, witnesses pain, and breathes with us until what is right can be safely brought into the world.”
Sunday’s sermon will explore the metaphor of “love as a midwife” in giving birth to moral courage as we continue to move together through a labor fraught with confusion and pain and lies.
